"Ol' Betsy" strikes again

Hi all.
Well, I've been dry a number of years now. I've put deer in front of my kids, but they've either missed, or didn't take a shot.
I have mixed feelings about this one, Doe under 100lbs, I normally let this size pass, but could use the stew meat.
I called in three does and after thinking about if I should take or not, I decided to take the medium sized doe of the three.
I was standing in some jack spruce for 5 minutes this afternoon and called them right in.
I ended up shooting this one with my 50 year old 54cal Renegade straight on through the collar at 10 yards.
I can still guide for the kids and take my bow on days they are not with me.
Happy hunting.

Congratulations on the doe. Nothing wrong with shooting any legal deer. She'll get you a lot of good stew.

Kids don't have school again tomorrow because of power outages. I'm taking one of them right back there tomorrow morning and afternoon.
There was a decent sized buck in the area judging from the fresh prints in the snow.
The whole 5 minute thing, and my "Ol' Betsy" is usually how it goes. I haven't brought Ol' Betsy in the woods with me since my last 7 pointer. She's old, beat-up and rusted. Stock has scratches all over it. A real butt ugly looking piece of 'you know what'. I took it to Lewis Arms over a decade ago to see if they would refinish it for me. Brad laughed and said,"I can sell you three new one for what it would cost". Not that I could blame him.
But, I tend to see more deer with her, and I haven't missed with her in 25+ years I've had her. I don't know why I haven't used her in 6 years.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Cheers,
NB

Congrats on the doe! Look at it this way, the small ones surely taste better and are much more tender. They are easy dragging and cost less to have butchered. Seems like a no brainer to me. Don't get me wrong, if a big one presents a shot, I'm squeezing the trigger!
