South only here (albany area) - i would give it a 4 .......  way too warm and lots of south wind.

I only saw 2 bucks all season .....  a 4 at one spot and a spike at the other  .....  except for a bruiser 8 i saw at my friends south of syracuse.

I did manage two does with the bow so i am plenty happy ..... kind of sad to see gun end but i am looking forward to real soap and shampoo ... not to mention ice fishing  8)

I hunt 6K up north and 4F down south. My deer sightings were down for both areas. I give both areas a 7 but I would give my season a 10.

I was fortunate to harvest a 3 pt. with the bow down south and an 8 point with the rifle up north. So I am thrilled with this year.

in the southern zone where I hunt 9J/9K I would rate the season as a 4 due to the lack of sightings and way too warm weather. I managed to harvest a doe today (sunday the 11th last day of the season) . But overall it was slow for everyone around here

If I went by the buck I shot I would say a 10. If I went by the number of deer I saw, I'd say a 3 at most.

1.  I had very little sightings and never got to experience any good pre, peak or post rut activity.  Now the rating is relative to other years, but I feel very fortunate that I was able to harvest a nice doe and breathe some fresh air and get away from the hustle and bustle.  Being bored in the outdoors is a beautiful thing.

2.... Worked a ton & barely got to hunt, lost my 2 best spots, had a camera stolen, saw barely any deer, weather sucked, timed my vacation too early, etc etc. I'm ready for icefishing.

Quality of the deer we did kill,    10        3 - 7pt slammers
Deer Sightings Northern & Southern Zone - 3 at the very best.

We did not see many deer at all in either Northern or Southern Zone & most of the deer we did see were the same doe & 2 fawns in thier home area.
We just happened to catch them at the right time to score 3 good 7's and pass up a few spike horns.

Now if you want to talk Tick sightings --- I'd give it a 100 !!!

10, My season was great personally.  6 PT. with the bow, large 7 pt with the rifle and a very large 10 pt. in Kansas. All the guys I hunt with got bucks except for one , who hit one the first day.
But on the other hand I went small game hunting this afternoon and never saw a deer. Not alot of tracks either.

My son got his first deer  8)
I mostly bow hunted and saw deer almost every time out.
I killed the first deer I've taken with a gun in many years. (Rifle & Muzzleloader)
I got to hunt with some good friends & took deer while we were at it.
I wasn't out for a big one but still got my 2nd P&Y buck and the largest bodied deer I've taken to date.
We have enough venison to have it for dinner about 4-5 nights a week, just the way Mama likes it.
I lost my best 2 properties last year and had pretty low expectations for this fall, I think that makes it sweeter.
Last season was one of my worst...this was one of my best, got to be about a 9 anyway.

1 on deer sightings and opportunities
8 on being out there, although I wish is was a lot colder!
10 on there are still 9 days left in the season and I am still trying to be an optimist.

my season was pretty poor for deer sightings saw 1 legal buck in pa on the 1st day had the 2nd week off hunted hard with not to many shot opportunity's saw a nice one on the last day on the last drive but it went where i should've been that's huntin i guess. My son shot a big doe on Friday with his great grandads old win. 3030 great shot too 50 yards head on right through the white patch in her throat with peep sights !

i finished the new york rifle season with a nice 8 pt one that we had never seen only had a neck shot but i guess that's all i needed

I only have next weekend for NY muzzleloader season but am hoping for some redemption for the pa flintlock season !

Any season that I am out there hunting has to be a 10. Didn't see many deer for the time I put in. One small spike horn and 12 other deer. Did shoot a doe on Sat. with ML, but after going 3 years without a deer I feel good about it. I had never shot a doe in over 50 years of hunting.....hunts2long

Good thread myemmy. Deer season for me so far, has been an 8. Not a lot of deer killed, but meat in the freezer and a lot of good times and it looks like I'll be able to get out a couple afternoons this week with my bow. Always hate to see it end. Congrats to every body on their deer!

Was a pretty good season. The crew got a quite a few deer so I would give it a 9. If I was going on the number of deer sightings probably only a 5. Didn't see many but the ones I did I took the opportunity.

This season was ok.  I'd rate it a 5 out of 10.  Lots of does, and the only buck I saw was a spike.   :P

as much as I wanna rate it a 1 as I filled zero tags and hunted my butt off I learned more and more each hunt so i will give it a 5.... I got my first picks on my trail cam which was cool and saw my first buck from stand but it was at 60 yards with a bow, so obviously i had no shot... maybe next year will be my 10 rated yr

id give it a 7 got my first northern buck finally but also missed one and had a couple of other encounters but couldnt pull the trigger but overall not a bad year our camp had a record breaking season killing 9 bucks during the rifle season old record was 5 so that was a good thing

I'll give it an 8. didn't get a shot with the bow but seen 2 nice bucks and 1 doe in range but no shot. got the biggest buck I've ever shot and got to spend a lot of time in the stand. (thanks honey  ;D ) all in all a pretty good year.

Any year I can spend some time in the woods, see some game and filling a tag or two is a good season for me in NY.

Well after a very up and down year medically More surgeries than I care to share) I would have to say the year ends with a 10 plus............I didnt get a deer and for that I am GROWLING, but I did see a ton of deer almost daily at least 4 or 5 tails (no opportunity for shooting but seeing them none the less and if I did have an opportunity to shoot I just didnt have what it took) THe deer were suppose to live at least another year.  I am getting my rack this weekend though....... Able to see turkey, squirrels make more noise that I could stand at times, lots of mink, chipmunks, weasels, fish, fishers, and coons.....Being able to get out and just walk in the woods, see all kinds of different animals plants and just the woods was fantastic.  Glad the old guys got me into this hunting thing.......otherwize I would have missed all these wonderful opportunities......Hopefully I have many more to hunting days left for me.  The only thing I would change is getting out with my spouse when he can more often and taking time to see all life has handed me.  I can not say enough............WOW what a great outdoor year and thanks to my good friends who gave me the push in the woods.  To the old guys.........THANKS!  TO MHF friends (imaginations) Thanks for sharing

If I went by the buck I shot I would say a 10. If I went by the number of deer I saw, I'd say a 3 at most.

I have to agree. I had a poor bow season even though I saw deer but sightings were down. I did take a nice 10 pointer with the rifle during firearms season. It was a very strange year.

Same here. I am happy I got a buck but have not seen many deer at all this year with all the warm weather.

Anyone else seeing a pattern to responses from NY hunters.....Less deer sighted, but more bucks killed.....Some good ones too...
Might be that the herd dynamics are starting to change...Better buck to doe ratio.....As long as we keep doing what creates a healthy herd....taking some doe, letting deer age a little, we might not see the 20 deer a day, but we do see the ones we want to shoot.. ;)

Great point Upstate - Our camp for one has been experiencing this the last two hunting seasons. We have good buck kill numbers for 2010 and 2011, however doe/fawn sightings were way down and have been going down for several years.
It is a very worrysome time for many in our camp that they are seeing no does...We have decided it could be one of two causes...Herd dynamics changing or the club above us has killed way too many doe and the deer just arent there anymore. You see, they have implemented a QDM plan that allows them somehwere in the neighborhood of 20-30 doe a year. I dont know what the ladn manager uis thinking?? This is big woods, not farmland. This two me in our hunting area would have drastic long ranging effects on the herd. There just arent that many deer in that neck fo the woods to support a does kill like that, especially being in the snow belt just east of Tug Hill.
And since they started doing this, our sightings are down and they have only taken several shootable bucks over the almost decade they have been doing QDM. Yes, us seeing more bucks may be a result of this but its not like the deer are thick anywhere and honestly, I'd rather shoot a crotch horn and have many deer sightings during the year than a 10pt with him being the only deer seen.

deer season as a whole a solid 9.5. plenty of deer sightings buck and doe. although the only nice racked buck i saw was shot soon after im ok w that. i have four nice deer (2buck 2 doe) in the freezer for myself, and between close friends and family i can think of  11 other deer that were harvested. and i got to celebrate. :) and thats what its all about
no complaints here.

I agree w/ less sighted, but not ready to say the sky is falling.

I saw deer every outing, but no mast meant travel corridor hunts instead, so I expected it.  Unusually warm temps and different food sources had them moving a lot more at night and not moving at all if they could help it where I was.

Still passed on a lot of small bucks, took one doe, a 6, and a nice 8 during the peak rut.  Also agree about the buck sightings, but believe as I noted, does weren't moving nearly as much and bedding near food so the bucks were crusing more looking for them.

I am sad to say my season overall was poor.  Only had one good day on 11/11 when I saw 2 bucks and got a shot at one.  The rest of the season both archery and gun was extremely poor with most days not even seeing a deer.  Only saw a couple fawns and no bucks at all during gun.  I am going to take the flintlock this weekend and hope I at least see something.

I would give my season an 8.  I harvested my first deer with a bow and had a chance to kill a nice buck but missed.  Saw a lot of deer and still have two weeks of primitive arms to maybe harvest 1 more.  spent some great time in the woods and had tons of fun hunting with some of my best friends.  Already can't wait to start scouting for next year.

Give it a 5 or 6 put in allot of time before season and during and didn't see many deer, the weather played a huge part in that, everyone I know back home saw the same thing... not much, can't even harvest a doe right now and I drove 4.5 hours to do it  :-\
