Title: I guess I've got to laugh
Post by: brace on Nov 28, 2011, 05:38:43 AM
Greetings Folks,

Rough last weekend at camp to close out a rough season that saw little sign and less deer - The snow showed that I had some deer on the property, but I couldn't cut a fresh track to save my life until late Friday afternoon when I jumped a nice buck out of his bed when my coughing caused me to leave my stand early and do a slow hunt back to camp.  Saturday was much the same with no fresh tracks or sign.

Sunday morning I met with the logger who will be cutting the property this winter - Within 15 minutes of leaving camp to walk the property we had deer jumping around us.  As we neared the stand I had sat in the night before we cut 2 fresh buck tracks that were apparently traveling together (or perhaps following the same doe at different times).  We stopped about 100 yards short of camp to discuss a stand of maple trees (I didn't want him to take them all), when he says "holy sh.. look at that" - I look over to our left in the direction he was staring only to find a big wide 8-pointer, not 20 yards away, standing broadside and staring at us.  If we hadn't stopped, I'm sure he would have let us walk right by.

Oh well, such is life right.....

Good luck to those who will be hunting the black powder season.

That's what makes them the number one big game animal in the country....they are tough....

I would question why we didn't have a gun while walking about the property though.... :o   LOL
That deer probably knew you were unarmed... :o :o :o

I feel your pain, I can't seem to hook up w/the big 1 as well, I know he's out there, I've seen him after hunting light, I almost tripped over him coming out of the woods last night. I've seen a little spike but I want to let him get bigger.

Hey Brace, if you decide to go after him with a Muzzle loader I got one you can use if you don't have one. I am back on the Bow.
