Hello all. just thought i would post up some pics of our hunting plots the wife and i put in last fall. The first set is from the wife's spot where we started cleaning up the mess the previous owner had made. the first year we just mowed everything down and that worked OK but then we decided to clear a lot to build our rental property. the best way we found was to rent a forester to chew up the prickly ash. what an amazing piece of equipment. once the new lot was cleaned up we put it to use on our hunting spots. so here they are.

and the same spot this year.

The next spot we cleared was the area we just wanted to clean up. the deer use this area to access the majority of our property from the neighboring farm.

after a few hours we ended up with this.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
-
Nice work. That camper would make a heck of a blind to spend a full weekend in. I could get some use out one of those foresters too, that's an awesome machine.
-
Now that makes for some quick work, Changed the appearance big time where it was used ;) :) :)
-
We used one on the property that my partner leases and they are an amazing machine.
Peddler
-
Terrific job - Those forester attachments for skid steers are awesome rigs.
-
You sure do put in the work, I 'm sure you'll get some good results from it. It looks to be part of an old farm, you shouldn't have any trouble getting some food plot to grow there. ;D

yeah we bought a few OLD campers and gutted them out and kept the couches in them. we also changed out the windows to sliding storm windows. they work great. and keep ya out of the rain and snow once the bows are put up and the thunder sticks come out.

Here's our other passion that we really enjoy. Goose hunting in my uncles field.
All set up and waiting for the birds.

The shot!! paced it off at 51yds from blind to bird. impressed with the old mans 20ga.

Yummm indeed ;D ;D

well so far this season i have had a rather good season. I am only putting out sets on our own property so the action is rather slow. llike they say you have to have the fur to be able to catch them. a few beavers, a coon early on and then a grey fox in a leg hold. always said that if i ever get a Fisher i'm gonna get it mounted. Well looks like i''m headed to the taxidermist. last week i went out to run the trap line on my birthday and found an otter in one of my 330 sets. never thought i would catch one of them either. Taxidermist is gonna love me this year. a few pic's.

Good job Hick... Whats that gun your shooting there??
-
That was an old Harrington and Richardson 20ga that my father handed down to me. it was his favorite gun for deer and grouse. watched him many times take the head off a grouse with a slug at 20yds. took this pic to show him while he was in the hospital to help him cheer up. it worked. he cant wait to come home and run the trap line with me for old time sake.
-
That is so cool.... I love it................ H and R's are now made by Remington.... Glad they kept them around.. My kid has a HnR 410....
-
Cool trapping pics!
Here in MT we are banned from taking pics before the animal is dispatched and we get fined pretty stiff if they catch us with that kind of photos and we can lose our license for several years as well. After they are dead it is fine to take pics. I guess it has to do with the anti-trappers getting a hold of the pics online when people post them, but it just makes for way to much govt regulation of my way of making side money if you ask me. I would love to be able to take some good pics and frame them for my cabin but I don't want to risk losing my trapping license and getting fined to do it :(
-
Awesome pics - Well done on the grey and fisher!!
-
Beautiful looking pictures.
-
jeez cornbread, no offense to your state but i wouldnt wanna be an outdoorsman there. have to be on eggs shells all the time.

Yeah it is getting pretty ridiculous with all the new regs and laws they have been passing. Somebody needs to get it through FWP's head that you can't legislate ethics, and they need to stop trampling all over our ability to enjoy Montana. e.g. we can't use trail cams, can't feed wildlife in any way shape or form even in the off season, this includes bird feeders which is ridiculous, can't take pics of trapped animals, can't use live bait when fishing, the list goes on and on and on and on, I am about ready to just say scr3w it and move to Alaska it is getting so stupid.
-
Nice group of pictures hick...... I saw a few fisher mounts at three rivers taxidermy in morley last week..... He does an awesome job making the animal appear living in natural habitat.... Wish i took a few pics when i was there..... Who does your taxidermy hick ?
-
Thanks for the kind comments everyone .
Who does your taxidermy hick ?
Backwoods has done the wife's grouse and i was pleased with the outcome since its head was nearly off. Her buck is there now and when i get the pelts sealed i will drop them off to be done. dec didn't have any fisher seals and just called me on friday and said they were in. So sometime this week we'll be dropping them off.
-
Sounds good..... Never heard of backwoods where is his shop ?
-
turn at sovie's cycle and he is a few miles out on the left. his add is in the free trader.

WOW. what a day. A good friend of the wife and I had invited us out on his boat for some walleye fishing today. It sounded like it would be fun but the weather didn't look like would cooperate. High winds brought the water level's up quite a bit on the St.Lawrence river but it turned out to be a GREAT day on the river. :thumb: :thumb: The day started out with some trolling and since we ( the wife and I ) had never targeted walleye our Capitan for the day Dale was explaining what a hit should feel like and BAM!!! I had one on. 22-1/2" walleye.
(http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x473/hickgtx600f4/SAM_0166_zps6e1176be.jpg) (http://s1183.photobucket.com/user/hickgtx600f4/media/SAM_0166_zps6e1176be.jpg.html)
That one walleye proved to be a teaser since we trolled around in some rather rough water every now and then when we weren't secluded from the shoreline's windbreak. after a about an hour the wife hooked into her first walleye also. a 19-3/4inch beauty.

Great trip, thanks for sharing.

Well ms.Hick and I took out Dale for his first goose hunt. Was a nice day out but the birds just didn't cooperate. Yesterday's scouting trip told us there was about 50 birds using our field and they left for water around 10am. they all left the field together and was hoping that they would not all show up at the same time. as luck had it we had three small flocks come in and Dale picked two off and i picked one off myself. we ended the day with just the three birds and had a great morning hunt. Ethel did well retrieving the birds but today was more of a refresher for her. she hadn't been worked since last duck season. a few picks from today.

Great pics
-
Great retrieve ;D ;D ;D
-
thanks everyone, didn't go out this morning due to the thunder and lightining mixed with terrential rain. until sat. ;D
-
I don't blame you. Been there, done that. Sloppy fields, rain and thunder take a lot of the fun out of it for sure!
-
Well we ended up getting enough rain to fill up the local swamps near our usual hunting spots. this made it a little sloppy in the fields. but it helped get the birds back in the area. only a few birds here and there until today. Lots of birds in the sky today and we had a neighboring farm with a few hunters that helped keep the birds up on out of the fresh cut fields. It started out slow but we ended with 18 birds between ms.hick and I. all and all a good day. we will be back tomorow.

-
Great job on the birds ;D Nice looking set up
those are just our standards as we call them. usually only put these out durint the first two weekends until the migrators start to show up. just a bunch of big foots and such. tomorrow we are gonna bust out the FFD's ;D ;D
-
Nice job Hick... Been seeing a lot around here in the fields....
-
Looks like you had a fun day congrats
-
Well sunday's hunt was a pretty good day also. they werent flying as well as satutday and most of the large flocks landed on the neighboring farm since no one was hunting it sunday. we still ended up with 16 birds and one that was worth a mount. Its not the largest bird or a banded one for that matter. but it had a bunch of white flocking on its head. never seen this before so i figured it should be preserved. ;D I put together a vid of the day's hunt and will post that also. The camera angle is not the greatest since it is just set on the tripod and turned on with the remote once the birds are locked on. Dont mind the calling i'm deffinatly not the greatest just do what seems to work for me. enjoy.

Nice pics looks like you had a good day. That is a cool pattern on the gooses head/neck. We use to have per ducks when I was a kid and we had one that had a white spot similar to that. We called it bird sh*t because that is literally what it looked like lol
-
Yup, i wont see him until next march or so when the taxidermist calls. gonna have a rester pose done. cant wait. ;D ;D
-
Well saturday's hunt went well and the birds were flying well for the first hour. they then decided they wanted to head to a fresh cut alfalfa field across the road. ended up with 9 birds in the end. a few pic's of the day's outing. 8)

Well sorry for being quiet but I've been hunting and trying to get as much time in the woods as I can before I go to school. Plus the coyotes growling at me with in ten feet while I was trying to leave the woods during archery has slowed me down a little and apparently the deer also. Well so far this season I've had no luck seeing deer, all the ones on the camera seemed to disappear. During archery I realized it was because the coyotes were so bad and had over run parts of the woods. So last night I decided I was going to have to find a new spot on the property to try where I could hopefully have a chance at finding a deer and avoiding coyotes. At least this time I figured it they tried to attack I would have a gun. Well I tried several spots but none seemed quite right, so eventually I found an area I really liked where I could see where they came into the field and also skirted around the swamp. Since there was no where to hide and still have a good view I decided to hunt like my dad and find a spot in the brush row, in full camo and stand and wait. Thirty minutes later I heard a cracking sound over the wind and there was a buck about to step into the field sixty feet feet from me and facing me. He couldn't smell me because I was down wind and even though his eyes were looking right at me he just kept walking right at me, not nervous or anything. When he was thirty feet I knew I had to try to raise the muzzle loader without him seeing me or he was going to walk right into me. I was even more amazed when I raised the muzzleloader and he just kept walking with no care in the world. Finally he turned a little so I could have a broadside shot and I took it. I took him in the shoulder and found him in the brush sixty yards away. He's a five point, not the biggest but not the smallest. I've never seen him on the trail cam before, which is nice because it gives me hope that there are more that the coyotes haven't ran off. Now the work begins, I'm seeing sausages and hot dogs :)

OK, well here we go.
Thursday night i got my first bobcat. no pic's but hey it was a lil small so it just headed to the fur buyer. i remade the set and added another set about 50yds up the meadow. glad i did ;D i got my second bobcat on saturday night. no pic's either. had a rough time with the frost locking up my traps. i remade them all since i had fresh tracks in all over my set's but nothing wearing a steel bracelet. Freeze-proofed all my sets and it payed off. I got out today and had another bobcat in the trap. it was a little small so i let it go. here are some pic's of the process.

I have always enjoyed trapping for fox and coyote's but never managed to get any bobcats. In the four years I have trapped this property i have never seen any sign of bobcats and now to end up with three within a week. :o I think these three bobcats were all recently kicked away from their mother. they were all just making their way down the road on their own path in life. I hope to catch this Gal next year. ;)

Great pictures and great story thanks for sharing. You are the man.

-
Sweet pictures sir...always wanted to catch a big cat
-
Thanks everyone !! It was interesting to see her just chilling out after the release. She will hopefully have a litter for next year. And I will hopefully see her next fall when she is a lil bigger. She tore up the set pretty good that's for sure. Maybe a yote will show up and investigate the catch circle. This field has the only two active sets on our property. I hope the fur keeps showing up.
-
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing....hunts2long
-
man Ive always wanted to catch on of those...seen my far share but never really trapped them, its tough where I am too only having state land...
-
ok i posted this in the trapping section but wanted to have it in my pic's also.
ok, i pulled the set that i caught the first coon in. he tore it up pretty bad and figured i would make a new set later in the same area. after seeing the trailcam footage of yote's and a fox skirting the set i know they were in the area. so i put a new dirthole set on the side of a mound in the hemlocks. i put a #2 and used a some powder ridge bait in the bottom of the dirt hole. i also added a cotton ball down the hole so it would have some eye appeal. second night there it connected. trying for a $20 yote and ended up with a high$$ fisher, Ill take that any day. ;D

Well it's been a while since I've posted. But I have been doing a lot of ice fishing with a little bit of walking in the woods to see what's roaming around. Well yesterday I went for a lil walk and ended up with a few birds for dinner.

Been a while but Ms.Hick got a new camera and I snuck in a few pics tonight i thought i would share. turns out the lil pieball I had on cam last year made it through the winter and is doing well. He has been sneaking around the yard quite a bit lately. The horse's don't usually pay any attention to deer in the yard but they didn't know what to think about this lil guy. maybe BJ thought it was his lil brother lol.

hickgtx600f4, Awesome Bobcat release video and Fisher pics. They are on my bucket list, but no season on them in my area...
I don't know how I missed your thread, big fan now! Looking forward to more pics, thanks for sharing!

Nice pics, I saw a pieball once. I believe it's from a vitamin deficiency.

Well here we go again it's trapping season. It's been a quiet season so far with very little action at my sets. This cold front must've gotten everything moving. I have set the last few years for coyotes with no luck. This year I focus most of my sets for them. A total of seven number two's in either flat sets or dirt holes spread across our property. Well I finaly connected today. I honestly could not tell you wether he is a large dog or not but my guess is not. As this is the first one I have ever had my hands on. He was loaded with ticks. Also connected on a nice big coon and much smaller one also. Not much for pics. Just the ones from the phone as the main cameras batteries died.

Great pictures!!!! How's the rest of your season going up there??
Rather slow here. Just the one other coon and that's about it. Once it cools down it should get better. No deer yet. As I haven't hunted much yet. Working too much. >:( but I can check traps in the dark.
-
Way to thin out the yotes. 8) 8)
-
Good catch your not helping my itch though.
-
Good for you, targeting yotes, let's thin them out!
-
nice job, I plan on setting half dozen or so yote traps for my 5 days at camp, never had luck with them hoping this will change, have some rank squirrel meat for some dirt hole sets
-
That will do it. 8)
Well I pulled all my traps untill the local fur primes up. May reset in a few weeks.
