Killing ticks on deer
(1/1)
dwaytkus:
My question is, when you get a deer that is infested with ticks , is there a product that you can put on the hair to kill the ticks?  I understand that getting the hide off as soon as possible is the best solution but I don't have a cooler to keep them cold.  Anyone know of anything?

i have no idea and most likely it would be very toxic and would ruin the meat

Last year the deer we shot were so infected with ticks you couldn't kill them all off. We just loaded them up and dropped them off at the processor as soon as we could. It didn't affect the meat any.

Most of the time the ticks will migrate to the "armpits" of the deer. Just butcher the meat as soon as possible. It does not harm the flavor. Or if you're that concerned by some flea and tick powder for animals and sprinkle that all over the deer after you shoot it.
