Starting to think about the birds and have been looking at different decoys, some look pretty good. Not that my old Delta hen decoy didn't work last year, but as a bowhunter I could see how these can make a difference in getting tough birds close.

The Smith decoys look real close to our color phase. I had some foam that were just to light, the birds seem to hang up a lot. Went to a hen/Jake that were darker and they worked well.
-
That Dave Smith looks REAL nice.
-
The DS is really nice, but pricey; it doesn't collapse. The Avian is a thick rubber inflatable, kind of like a cross between a regular collapsible rubber decoy and an inflatable, still not cheap. Our woods can be a little thick and sometimes I think it's better to make the tom keep searching, and not even use a deke.
The Delta I've got is pretty dark.

That smith is incredible.

Ordered the Dave Smith. The are making them out of a new, softer material instead of the hard plastic; they are also lighter now. Can't wait to see it in person.

sweet. i cant wait for a real life review. since u posted that pic of the dsd i have been thinking about selling off the flock of deeks i currently hav n gettin one good one. birds around here hav become increasingly decoy shy w all the added pressure in the last five yrs. so i think realism is alot more important than it once was.
turkey hunting around here is nothing like it was 10 yrs ago... thx to the outdoor channel >:( >:(
keep us updated.

Nice!! Give us a report, I do have to agree with the no decoy thoughts as in regards to our thick woods we hunt in. I do have a few places that they have helped with though. My biggest thing is getting myself positioned where I can see well, but they have a hard time finding me. Not to concerned with other hunters as of yet, not a lot of them here.

After tracking down the package and retrieving it from someone's back porch about 5 miles away ::), I have my new decoy and I'm very pleased and hope the toms like it too.(http://www.getsmileyface.com/new/turkey_smileys/1.gif)

I have, but not any more....

WOW, that is realistic. Should work where they can see it.

Just be prepared for some "sticker shock", they ain't cheap. :o Best price I found is Mack's Prairie Wings with free shipping.
It does look like it will last a long time, thick rubber and the paint is supposed to adhere well.

If it works its worth every penny to me. ;)

im sure it works great....the slow way just keeps me in the woods longer.......to see the world and enjoy..... ;) but whatever works is great too......
-
only $120 for the one jj purchased.
ill have my lawn sale the 1st weekend of april and will sell all of my existing deeks in 1 day guaranteed. keepin my beachball strutter tho. i love it.
-
I didn't spend $200, that's for the strutter; which I wouldn't use because I'm sure someone would probably shoot it, I've had enough hunters stalk me when I'm set up calling. ::) ;D They are supposed to work really good, though.

That strutter is magnificent. 8)
-
No way you could pay me to sit within shooting range of that strutter. The hen looks great, but I'll stick with my cheap collapsible dekes for the few times I use them.
-
Has anyone ever used those lifelike turkey covers from A-Way outdoors? I seen them at a show but dont know anyone that has used them. They slip over your existing decoy like a feathered wig.
-
Added the DSD jake to my lineup for this year, after seeing the reaction to the hen the last couple years I decided it was worth it; should get the toms interested and keep them close for a bow shot.

That looks pretty real... Should hold them close for you..

nice looking deeks, I am planning on trying with the bow more this year, I was watching/reading about it and they suggest putting your decoys 10yrds or less from your blind, got a mission craze for my son and ol' lady so I figured I will use it in the blind for maneuverability ;D
