Is everyone ready?
« on: Sep 15, 2004, 08:34:24 AM »
Here in NY the season opens a month from today.
Start scouting and practice your calls!

If you don't like hunting turkeys in the fall you haven't tried it...

Typically I hunt turkeys by chance in the fall when I am bow hunting.

I do reserve at least a day to break out the gun and hunt them.

It seems to never fail that the day I hunt with the gun a really nice buck crosses path with me.

Fall birds are fun to hunt especially if you can find a vocal flock.

Hey Jon- Have you ever taken a turkey with a bow?
That would be an incredible challenge for me.
Maybe someday  8)

I'm like BSJ, I usually run across fall turkey while grouse hunting.  Find a flock, bust 'em then call 'em back!  If I don't find turkey sign then I keep grouse hunting.

I don't bow hunt, but my cousin does and has taken many turkey with his bow.  Usually a flock will come by his tree stand and he'll whack one.  He also carries small game points while deer hunting.  If deer hunting is slow he'll pop squirrels and has even bagged a couple of grouse from his tree stand.
Their comin' right for us!

Anyone here in NY get out today?
I'm going to my "camp" tomorrow, which is actually just a friend's trailer. The weather is supposed to be horrific, but that's ok. I will be there until I find them.
Unfortunately the wind will fark up all my scouting, but I'm confident.
I think you have to be...

No, my wife usually lets it age for two or three days in the
refrigerator and then cooks it.  She like them fresh and not
frozen. (Personally I do not see any difference - but you
know how wife's are!)

I am drueling just waiting for May 1st. It's even better than April 1st.  ;)
I applied for a permit in Letchworth State Park this spring. There's a lottery drawing on April 8th.  The habitat is awesome and I live about 10 minutes away!  8)

All right! I'm done trout fishing until there's at least one bearded bird on the ground.
One week to go and counting...
I will do some more scouting tomorrow after work and mark a couple waypoints on the GPS. Maybe get an idea if anyone else will be in MY spot on Sunday.
I still haven't cleaned or patterned the 12 gauge either, but that's no big deal.

I cleaned my 12 gauge on Wednesday.
I just shot three loads through it on my "Lunch Break".
She kicks like a mule and I still love her.

30 yds. Good enough for me!
