Post by: SHaRPS on Sep 08, 2015, 02:26:31 PM
VERY DRY! Almost time for Hen's and Honeys but wont have any if we don't get any rain anytime soon. I am hoping for a 3 day stretch, preferably Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.  LOL

All over..  Just checked the soil and not ever an 1/8 of an inch of wetness....
Might be enough to green the grass... :-\

Most of our yard is pretty green only a few little brown spots. We've been watering the flower gardens rather than the lawn
Mrs. Peddler has lots of potted plants and gardens that require lots of water.

Thanks Mooseslayer!

What type of mushrooms are you finding up your way right now? Any Hen of the woods? I think I am going to keep my eye open for some hens while I am on my trip, just not sure if they grow that for north...... I'm sure they do. Either way, I will definitely have a few bags handy just in case.

Hens can honestly be anywhere. Surround your self with Oaks and Maples and you should stumble upon some. Not sure where you are from but this has been one of my better seasons in the last 8 years. Get'um while the getting is good.

Good luck! I don't see them around here until late November. I spotted a few more hens so I am just giving them a few more days to mature. Other than hens, honeys, and oysters - everything else is gone until next year!

Anyone else finding anything?

found about 4 lbs. of fall oysters last nov. looking for chaga. they were on a big old yellow birch frozen solid! looks like they came out and then flash froze before they could go bad. made for some good eats! gonna check that tree again soon!

I also marinate the honeys and/or use them for tomato sauce. Just like any other mushroom really. Honeys are nice because they stay crisp.

I will also be looking for some oysters this year. This is one mushroom I never really looked for before. but I do know of 2 trees that produced last year.
