Zone 3 Moose Permit
« on: Jun 19, 2018, 07:28:07 AM »
Came as a real surprise to me yesterday when my wife received in the Mail a zone 3 cow permit. Seems I was concentrating so much on looking for my name I missed hers being drawn!

It’s cow only in zone 3 for the late October season, and we are so fired up! Just starting the research today and I realize we have lots to do. But any thoughts, suggestions as to general location or techniques would be appreciated.

Wish us luck!

Zone 3 is a large zone with plenty of moose. You definately will want to do some scouting prior too, many logging roads with cuts to investigate. I will be in the same zone in early October with a bull tag.😎

I am using Joe Chasse but he is in Fort Fairfield which is a little over an hour from where your staying. He does a great job. He is .70lb on the hoof with free skinning. If you want his # let me know. Whom ever you decide you want to set it up quickly as spots fill up fast.

Good luck both of you. vtpike, my experience with moose the last few years up north is they seem to be getting more and more scarce from the road but if you get in the woods you will still see plenty.

Thanks MGK! We are perfectly fine with hitting the woods. Can’t wait to get up there and start scouting.

A lot of farm land with moose in that area. Not the prime week to hunt but you got what you got. If I had to guess you'll probably be staying near the Golf Course. Get an atlas/gazetteer. Terre Des Soeurs and any roads not posted off of it are good for moose. Mostly farm land at the beginning then wooded a few miles in. Don't waste your time in the Baie Creuse, some maps show the road coming out onto the lake road but it is a dead end with many year round homes now. Headed toward Grand Isle there are a lot of farm roads with plenty of forest to hold moose. Doucette Rd and Grivois Rd are well known spots with several side (farm) roads off of them. My motto is if it ain't posted it is legal to hunt. Bouchard tree farm is a great place also. For that week I'd poke around the farm land EARLY in the AM and as the day goes on I'd probably head out into the bigger woods (Sullivan Rd.). Then get back onto the farm land before dark. Violette Pond and the surrounding area is another known spot for moose. Good Luck!
