aquaassassin  i shoot 140 grain soft points.i love this caliber i wish every hunter had a chance to kill a deer with it. i think they would be hooked.ive been hunting 38 years and had a 280 of one sort or an other for 31 of them years. i own 4 of them now. hopefully 5.lotts of good calibers but by far my favorite and very versitile.im glad i have a few fans of the 280 out there.i have a 17 akley hornet i love this gun.i read in hunting preadator extream this mornig that they make a factory 17 hornet now. i wounder if its the same shell as my akley?

Hmm? Not sure usually Ackleys have a stouter wider casing to fit more powder compared to there partner cases. I looked into buying a .280 Ackley improved from Kimber but you only gain an extra 100 ft. per second and the shells were double  the money. You could get that extra 100 ft. by just handloading, in which case why not just get the 7mm Mag. same exact bullet........

I do not own a .270 wsm just a .270 win. My good buddy has one though in Browning's x-bolt. I have shot it.

Pro's to it I could see were a little bit shorter action so it kept weight down a little and the powder burns more efficiently in the wsm inherently making it more accurate and better for long range.

the con's were, a little harder to get ammo and more expensive, and barrel life is shortened with hotter temps. also with heavier grain bullets the bullet hangs out of the casing further making them not seat as well.

I personally am not into the whole short mag. thing but alot of people are and they are great guns.

Yeah I think that is what turns me off with the shortmags, I think they are moving way to fast for where I live. It is all tight quarters and close range mostly here. I feel like the bullet would just zip through and leave two pinholes with no devastation.

Chez, just google Hornady and you can read about the new .17 Hornet. I doubt if it's the same as your Ackley.
