2009 Archery Bull
« on: Oct 07, 2009, 11:49:01 AM »

Shot this guy with my bow on 9/24/09.

Not huge but my first 7 x 7.   Not great pictures, I was by myself and trying to use the self-timer so they didn't turn out great.

LONG pack to the truck, I think I'm almost recovered, finally!

I didn't measure him actually so no idea.

Mass wasn't great, short points on 5, 6, 7 ect.

Believe me I'm not complaining just wasn't the eye-popper I was hoping for.    Happy with the bow kill though, I really wanted to get it during archery season.

I have a 14 yr old daughter that has two elk tags, an antelope and a deer tag so she's going to keep me busy, I'm guessing.

WOW! congrats on a great bull! My wife and i have been saving up to take a trip out to montana for an elk and deer hunt for a belated honeymoon. That is quite an accomplishment and with a bow at that! do you have any recommendations on what area in montana to take the wife on a hunt?

Too long and too far.   Two trips with the meat (boned out front quarter, one backstrap and hind quarter and took one load, then the other load, and oh man was it heavy!) and one trip with the head.

Thankfully it was mostly downhill except for the last 1/4 mi which really sucked.

Took me the better part of a day, it was 3.5 mi from the elk to the truck and I was by myself.

I slept well that night.

Good luck hunting everyone and I appreciate the kind words!

That's a tough question in a state as big as Montana.   There are probably as many different answers to that question as there are elk.

If you have a specific area in mind, I might be able to help.   I mainly hunt central Montana.

Hope you get to make the trip someday!

Wow! Nice job buddy. I was just wondering how you were doing w/ that when i saw your post. Awesome bull! Congrats!

My archery season so far has consisted of a missed shot at a cow  :'(, and a nice 10 yard harvest on a doe (on film). Gettin geared up for antelope, let the big dog bark!! Good luck w/ the daughters tags!!

Good luck man, hope to see some pictures early next week!

Trying to get the daughter to go out Sunday for her 'loper but she has a dance on Saturday night and I'm not sure she's going to want to get up early to go hunting.    Dancing or hunting, no contest right?

Guess I'm not a teenage girl, she needs to get her priorities in order!

Congrats nice bull. Would have been hard to turn him down. Good job on packing him out I can ralate to that. My wife and I had to go to the hot pool in Thermoplis to soak our bones after we packed mine out. Good luck with your daughter on her hunt.

thanks for the reply. I'll narrow it down before we make the trek out west. I was drawn for the moose hunt out here last year and she shot the bull so now she wants an elk. I was going to post her moose pics but I cant figure out how to do it on here... Thanks again fishn4eyes i'll be sure to get in touch if we head out to centeral montana!
