cabelas dehydrator
« on: Oct 09, 2012, 06:57:50 AM »
in an effort to streamline the jerky making process this year i did alot of research, bit the bullet and ordered this guy last week. should be here today and i cant wait to try it out.
is there anyone here who has any experience w this model? they say there is no need to rotate trays but i have a hard time believing that. also wondering if the screen are necessary for doing ground jerky ?  any advise or comments from the crew?  i think drobs may have one like this?

also ordered these sweet heart mucks as they were finally on sale.  seems like a perfect all around hunting trapping boot.

I have the round style with the stackable trays. It has a temp setting dial on top. I think it is made by Nesco or something like that. Works great and no turning or flipping. Cheeks out!!! 8)

i have that same one now but it only holds like 4 lbs.  need something bigger. i found that rotating trays and flipping was always necessary to get them to dry evenly. it got the job done but was a pain to get timed right.   i borrowed one from buddy and another from sister to keep up w production ha,  so i had 3 of them going on the table a couple times a week.

i did over 60 lbs of jerky last fall and it was gone by january :o  that stuff is like crack for kids.  shootin for 100 lbs this year.

Im glad you went ahead and did that. Ill be paying attention to this. I have a Cabelas 7 in 1 gas smoker. It works really good until it gets cold out, its not good for cold weather. Ive been wanting something like what you have ordered.

That's because it must have a low pressure regulator on it. Most gas bbq'ers have high pressure regulators so they can be used all winter.

Just got it all unpacked and setup. Boy she's a looker, and everything seems very well built and solid. Maybe this weekend I can have a performance review to post for u Grubb.

Hey......... :o  Whatch ya talkin bout mister?  ;D ;D

am still using the oven so looking forward to a report.

The problem is that it is not insulated. I can crank up the gas but its just not right for slow smoking in cold weather. Looses heat too fast.

Put it in the Kitchen. ::) ::)
