Opening day shocker
« on: Sep 11, 2013, 08:48:17 PM »
Well I hunted with a fella on opening day. He managed to kill two doe's. Upon field dressing one of the doe's much to our suprise she was still carrying a fawn. For that to have happened she would  to have been bred in March. Anyone one else ever hear of this?

Where was this?  You should notify the fish and game of that state.

My grandfather told me an old hunting story of his that he was field dressing a big fat doe and she had a fawn in her, I think he said that was back in the late 70's or early 80's when that happened.

Somebody posted pictures of a doe that looked pregnant on here this summer. Strange things can happen in nature. Bucks are able to breed does as long as they still have their antlers, they lose them when testosterone levels drop.

Picture was mine, haven't seen a new fawn yet thankfully. I see the same doe a lot on camera so I should know if she does drop one.

Wow, that is very interesting.  Did the fetus appear to be nearly fully developed?  I have seen some very tiny fawns during deer season that must have been born in mid summer, I doubt they could make it through a northern winter.  jperch

about 4 or 5 years ago my parents had a doe with a fawn with spots coming to the apple tree in their back yard during December. This is in southern Maine.
Any day in the woods or on the water is better than ANY day at work.

I've never seen it this late in the season. Maybe she lost one and then got bred back.
