Weasel Box Stolen Bait
«

I recently put out 4 weasel boxes (2 inch hole) for the first time ever. (Heard of a friend doing it and thought id give it a try). I am using mice as bait. After the first night of the trap having been set i went and checked my boxes, in one box the mouse was chewed on a little bit but the trap was not tripped. This morning i went back and the mouse was completely gone along with a small piece of venison i had put in there and the trap was tripped. The mouse had obviously been consumed inside the box as there was mouse fur all over the inside of the box. Other than a sly weasel (which i guess is a very real possibility) what could be stealing the bait from my weasel box?

What type of trap are you using? How light is the pan tension?

Would a mouse eat an entire mouse and 2 inch by 2 inch chunk of venison in one night?

I know I have had mice eat other mice caught in traps in my garage. Wasn't much left from it.

I mean i guess anything is possible. There was absolutely nothing left. No skull no bones no nothin. i guess it could have been several mice? Im hoping it was a weasel and i get him tonight!

If it was mice they will leave a scent trail going into the box. Very good chance that a weasel will follow that trail. Good luck.

Yep I've seen mice eat other mice in traps too. Pretty disturbing but they never got the whole carcass, just left a mangled mess. Good luck to ya

first thing i would do is replace the rat trap with a number one or one and a half long spring. pan is alot bigger for the weasel to step on and pan tension is ussually pretty light!
