Just wondering if anyone looks for puffballs seeing they are usually ready around hunting season.I've picked some and fried them up they seem real rich so I figured I would fry them up with something else.Any recipies for these?

I got a lot of them a month or so ago, a couple the size of a basketball. Here in Northern Michigan.

Does anyone know if you can freeze puffballs or in some way keep them for later meals[ weeks, months ?] I never tried but I know they don't keep in the fridge for long.

The only way that I have found to keep the giant puffball is to-
Skin it (easy to do once you have one in your hand)
Slice it into quater inch slices
put them on the grill or in a dry frypan and cook them like a pancake.
Let them cool and put in plastic zip locks (suck out all the air)
I use them all year round to put into soups, stews anything.
Another thing I do is make a powder out of them by taking the sliced pcs and puting them in the dehydrator instead of cooking them. Once the pcs are fully dryed out, crush them to powder and use as a thickner (like corn starch) great in stews and chilli.

I found lots of puffballs out there this weekend. I think they like this cool rainy weather. Too bad I don't like mushrooms.

I found 2 puff balls last week and they were both the perfect size for eating . I ate both in a couple days so I didn't try freezing it . I fried some venison back strap in butter and onions then fried a 1/2 in. slice of puff ball in the gravy , WOW it was Great.
It's raining today , hope to find more. I heard from an older gent they are awsome smoked, I'll have to try that...

I think when they get that big , they start getting dry ,wormy or pithy and not as good to eat.
The ones I like are Volley ball size and quite moist inside. When sliced they are pure white , almost look like a dairy product or angel food cake, pretty neat.
