1st deer with a bow
« on: Oct 30, 2005, 09:50:06 PM »
Yesterday my grandson who is 12 years old got his first deer and it was with his bow. (I do not
bow hunt).  We got into my stand at 3:10 and at approx 4:15 a large deer which turned
out to be a small horn spike, came down off the mountain and finally walked by us at 16 yards.
He hit it dead center in the rib area, a real fine shot and the deer only went 70 -80 yards.
Perfect situtation - good blood trail and lots of daylight left to follow it. He learned a lot.
I don't know who was more excited, my grandson or me. But I am sure one proud grandpa!

What a great deer for a first bow deer. Your grandson will treasure those antlers for the rest of his life.

Not many hunters can say that!

Pete,
That's awesome!!  I would guess that those memories and experiences rank right up there with the best of them.  I too got my first deer with a bow, and it is such a satisfying experience.  I actually just shot one with my bow tonight and posted the pics in teh big buck contest...although I know it won't hold up, I figured I would get the contest started.....

Bob,

Glad to hear you got a nice buck.  Yes, it was probably the finest "outdoor
experience" I have ever had.  My grandson is still walking around with a large
smile on his face. Now he wants to get a turkey and of course, do some more
archery hunting.

Pete

Congrats -  Nice  to get your first one with a bow. It looks
like a nice size doe. Did it go far after you hit it?

um was a buck with a busted spike so was tagged as a doe he actually walked right under where i used to have my stand placed about 20 -25 yards out broadside and when he looked at me when i grunted him i never saw the spike was upset it was a buck not an actual doe but glad i got it he went about a total of  50 to 60 yards 20 of them with no blood then it looked like a spilled paint can took one lung and he broke trhe arrow
