Patterning and brand shotshell
« on: Mar 21, 2011, 03:55:24 PM »
Just patterned my shotgun...wasnt really too impressed at 40 yards...5 BB's in kill zone, which I know is plenty, but Id rather opt for something denser...I tried winchesters and remingtons (both lead) in 12gauge 3" #4 mags...I shoot a Remington 11-87 with a super full Rem-choke. was just wondering what everyone elses opinion on the best load was for their gun...Ill go broke buying more brands for trial and error...thanks.

Try the Winchesters in #5's

This is what I use and get great results. I patterned it last year and got 16 pellets in the head and neck at 45 yards.

Or even #6s for a higher pellet count. I know my gun patterned better with 3 1/2"s, but hear others say their gun likes 3"s.

maybe I will try the 5's...I like the 4's due to more downward energy at longer ranges, but may give them a shot...anyone use the hevi-shots?

i shot 3.5" nitro turkey 5 shot from my mossberg 835 and that didnt pattern well at all so i switched to 3" nitro turkey 5 shot and it is much better i think the more powder in the 3.5" shells tends to blow the patterns out the 3" nitro turkey shells have always been my favorite for years cheap less than 10 bucks a box and they perform very well shot all my birds with this shell

The ones I'm using out of the 12 gauge are the plain Supreme Turkey loads http://www.winchester.com/products/shotshell-ammunition/supreme/turkey-loads/Pages/STH1235.aspx.
