got my first one!

After seeing 13 deer this season, number 14 never made it  150 pound, 6 point (no brow tines, would have been a sweet 8 )

came in at 9:01, following the trail of 3 does that i had passed at 7:30. by a stroke of luck he came to the only lane i had, i practically yelled a bleat at him to stop him. popped him at 13 yards, single lung, liver and a 1 inch nick in the heart. mule kicked on the shot and then walked 20 yards, tail flicking (heart started pounding in my chest, i knew i had him). walked out of sight and i let him rest. 9:30 i got down. looked at the arrow and almost no blood around it, but the shot looked good. walked 55 yards to find him piled up. only one big spot of blood on a leaf the whole way.

this buck seriously was way too forgiving. i drew on him twice while he was doing a figure 8 around where the does had poked around, i grunted 4 times to bring him closer and he wouldn't even give me a wink. he was on a mission and stank of the rut

i've had some excellent teachers. thursday was a culmination of a lot of groundwork scouting this year, practice with the bow, and a lot of teaching from close friends
