OK, so they threw three fortune cookies in the box when I got lunch at the Chinese place.  Two were the usual crappy stuff, and one had no fortune at all.

Almost had 2 days in a row off..........Duty calls tomorrow. 30 acre warehouse shutting the pump for the sprinkler system down for maintenance. 1/2 is refrigerated 1/2 is a freezer.  Might not be done with winter temp's afterall.

I'm thinking of trying my first high peak on Saturday (need to get outside!). Anyone have good suggestions for a mountain to start with? Might have to toss on the snowshoes and start early.

I haven't done any mountains in quite a few years. If you want to start a bit smaller Noonmark is a great choice, best short hike I ever did. It's only a couple miles from what I remember, but when you get to the open summit it offers an awesome view of many high peaks. I don't remember many specifically, but DO NOT choose Marshall. Worst hike I ever did, can't imagine how bad it would be in the snow. I'd recommend putting cleats in your pack as well, the rocky mountain tops may be icy and you don't want to loose your footing up there.

It's actually on the trail to Dix, you keep going if you felt ambitious. Check out this view from Noonmark though.

Cascade is one of the easiest of the High Peaks, still has great views; easy access to the trailhead from Rte 73 near Keene, NY.

More fun to do Cascade after April 1 - then you can fish for brookies in the ponds, too.

Awesome. Noonmark is definitely on the list now. I was looking at cascade since it looked the shortest even tho ill miss the brookies.
