A buddy who taps in Topsham picked up over 100 gallons of sap out of 15 trees this weekend. It's running early, but appears to be running. I'm syruping about 110 miles north, so I'm probably still a little early.

Only got two tiny perch.
Yes, there are smelt in there, didn't see any big schools though.
Oddly enough I caught one of these last week in Saratoga, this one is way bigger. At 14" My personal best
. I'm thinking it's a creek chub?
Also missed a laker or trout on the hali, got it to hit three times but couldn't get it hooked.

We used to call them Mohawk chubs here in the Hudson....Caught some that were 24-26" and over 5lbs...Was real disappointing to see that flash in the river, and then get the thing into shore to find out it wasn't a trout....
They do fight like heck though!!

Those fallfish are hands down the best Catfish bait I've ever used. We usually go to the Hudson about 1-2 hours before dark to stock up on fallfish for the night, then fish through the night with big chunks. They stay on the hooks very well, and the little fish can't strip them. Definitely worth saving in the freezer if you catch any more!

They do fight good for their size. and they're super aggressive. Both the ones I caught these past two weeks just rocketed out of nowhere and slammed the jig. The big bay was a total bust, if there's a single weed or piece of structure we missed it. Just shallow flat river rock type bottom, might be worth trying it with tip-ups for browns some time though. But next trip (next weekend?) we'll bring the snowmobile and look for craps. I have an idea or two on where to look for them.
