Looks terrible. Does anyone know if this is passed thru genetics?

Looks more like a cancer.....a friend shot a doe once that had a melanoma near its ear, same place horses get them.. quite black.  Warts are usually more rough looking.

Could be a "deer wart", they are caused by a virus and are mostly harmless; no it's not a genetic problem. Could also be an old injury, but the deer looks very healthy; tough to tell  for sure from the pic.

Found this article on warts. Seems that they can recover from an outbreak. I sure hope its not cancer as corny13 mentioned.

Warts also turn into cancer some time... first discovered in Rabbits.....then humans...why there is a wart Vaccine for humans.....  they turn into squamous cell carcinoma which can be fatal.....
