Fisher bait question

Fresh or stinky?  I'm a bit limited in bait choice. Using Mackeral caught this summer and frozen. Getting ripe now, been out for a week and it's been warm. I don't have or know where to get any muskrat or beaver. Will the mackeral work? should they be replaced?

they will still work. take a piece of beef out of the freezer and let it sit in the sun for a couple of days if you want to change it up a little

Have you tried red squirrels.  Every fisher I've seen in the woods was chasing those suckers.

Friend of mine uses deer carcasses. Plus if you call him he will go where you dressed the deer to make some sets. He spends a month or better on trapping. Gets a nice buck every year too, as he is in the woods checking traps. He has four fisher and over twenty coyotes he said the last time I talked to him. Thats was a week ago.
