First hunting trip of the year 2008!
« on: Sep 04, 2008, 09:51:18 AM »
Went up north to shoot a 3 point or better elk this year for the first time.

When we got there the day before the season we saw this little deer.

6 points on this side!

4 points on this side!

We seen alot of bull elk but couldn't get close enough or they were always one step ahead of us.
We set up a ambush on the last morning of the hunt. At 6:00 am my wife Cheryl, connected with this elk!

Cheryl then proceeded to gut her animal but then we realized that I forgot the meat saw. We had a
4" saw that fit on our knife but we got the job done.

All in all a very good trip. Next week in 7-15 Cheryl has a bull moose draw so we will see what happens there.

Good luck on the moose, looking forward to the pics

Nice looking bull and lots of great pictures. I'd like to go for an elk one of these days. Just waiting for November deer season here. Waht do have for temperatures in your area? Still quite warm here. Wouldn't be able to let an animal hang at all.

Our hunting season is not open around here either. Had to go 5 hours north. Up there the temps are lows of 4 C and high of 15 C. That day the elk was shot it got up to 18 C. It took us 2 hours to have the elk gutted, hung and took the hide off . Also put cheese cloth on it to keep the flies off. It took another 2 hours to pack camp and head for home. A little warmer temps are not so bad on the meat is just cuts down on the hanging time. The thing you have to watch out for is flies and to have lots of air circulation.
