tips for hunting deer from a stand
« on: Sep 24, 2014, 03:29:31 PM »
Hey all, I am new to this forum. I used to hunt before I joined military but it was always stalking. Now due to injuries from overseas I am pretty much contained to a stand. Any tips and advice would be appreciated. Also my wife is hunting for first time this year, hoping she tags out. Thanks for having me here.

The most important tip is to be sure to use a good safety harness.

First of all thank you for your service.

when hanging stand one thing I always try and do is to be conscious of the predominant wind in your location and try to stay down wind as much as possible. Another thing I always try and do is to get high enough to where I still feel comfortable but high enough that the deer wont easily notice that you are there. Most of my stands are about 25 feet off the ground

First thing get something nice and comfy ; 2nd you want Summit viper is a good choice for a climber
They got some good ladders also ; I love river edges and Swamp edges run ways should be about 20yrds
from edge not the one your looking for should be about 40 to 50 yrds. from the edge that the one will
be faint but present set up down wind from it  ; I have pretty good luck this way ;  Hope this helps

got a twin ladder stand, with blind , set up 75 meters from heavy game trail, to the north east is the bedding area, and trails are to and from water supply feeding and bedding. Rubs all over the place, the poplars are tore up good. i have trimmed any branches that were in line of sight, but have kept up branches that will help maintain concealment. Ladderstand is 20 ft, set up and waiting for 01NOVEMBER

Cover behind you is good to help break up your silhouette. I like to pick spots in my lanes where I think the deer will go and estimate the yardage ahead of time. Range finder will help with that but I just guesstimate.

            Thank you for your service.
Try Primo's bleat call, Tink's scents.

I cannot thank you enough for your service and sacrifice

Keep plenty of cover around you and keep off the trails and you should be set. Harness is a must.

Big fan of the original primos buck roar grunt tube not the new one and the primos long bleat can. A nearby mock scrape in shooting range helps as well.
It's not being cocky if you can back it up!

What state are you in,i'm sure whitetail hunting could vary some,,but I'm not sold on any scent yet, even though one was  made right here-Horn Hunter Lure and I know it was the real deal with does with diapers on at the right time in a large game farm, also hang out a camera or 2,sit in your stand before season and scout it out,,do you hunt bow bp or rifle,,,,,
