Sweet. I was just curious if it was something new to you guys all together or if you've been into it for a while. I've shot quite a few turkeys with a bow but sounds like you prob have your stuff together so I'll keep my mouth shut lol

NO PLEASE DONT KEEP IT SHUT. !!!

we could use any help you guys have.
I have only shot one turkey in my life i think about 15 to 16 years ago . Guess im a newby to the sport.
I have been overwhelmed with big game since i moved to Montana . We came from Michigan in 2005 and been hot on the trail for elk ..but my son would like to hunt turkey.
You can get a over the counter tag for eastern Montana but that 3 plus hrs.away so i put us in for local limited tags and drew .
We drew as a party , my wife , son and myself . It opens on april 12 so we are going to pick up some calls and start learning .

So anybody with some info please chime in . Thanks mt.perchman

I hate to hunt from ground blinds when turkey hunting since my style is aggressive run and gun so a blind slows me down. The way I go about it is  one or two ultra light decoys and one of those light weight camo half blinds with the steaks you push in the ground.  After I locate a gobbler I sneak in as close as I can before I call again then I find the biggest back drop available and set up back to the turkey. Ideally, I'll call him in until he can see or is looking for the decoy, he will walk past me with his back to me it makes it 100% easier to draw my bow undetected. If the turkey's cooperate, that setup will work every time.

I should mention also, I never use decoys when I use a shotgun. I don't ever have the need for one. In my area by the time they are in range to even see a decoy it's powder burn time. With a bow it gives them something to focus on so you can draw your bow.

I agree with tally. I have spent a lot of time sitting in one spot trying to call the turkey in. I have had more success with a more aggressive approach. A LOT of hiking around to located birds is nessesary. Early morning helps I am usually in the woods before sunrise listening very carefully. A gobble can be heard from a long way off when the woods are quite in the morning. Lastly with just learning to call I would say to not be too aggressive. Relatively quite clucks followed by listening. I try to hunt turkey with my ears first especially in the spring
