Title: Weasel Boxes
Post by: flintlokusa on Dec 03, 2011, 03:20:30 PM
Got bored this week, so I made a few weasel boxes and set 3 out today. I wanted to see if they have turned color yet . Does anybody else mess with the little guys ??

I used to do a lot of trapping, both here and up north. Haven't done any, other than a little beaver trapping, in probably fifteen years. I miss it and I'm hoping to be able to get a few fisher and bobcat sets out next season. I've never really targeted weasels but I've caught some over the years. It does sound like fun though. Good luck with your weasel boxes!

Well after 2 days, the count is 5 mice, but that is ok, they are putting some scent in the box. Have to change the pan setting tomorrow when I freshen up the bait.

Do you ever get a mink in these type of sets?  Seems like they would work good for mink also.

Weasel are a ot easier to catch than a mink! Mink dont like to go in to a hole that doesnt have a visible exit hole too.

no weasels last night but heres a pic of the box now u can use a ratt trap or a jump trap they work the best but heres a pic i trap mostly Orleans county vt  ill set these around rock piles and squirrel holes in the woods once u have a lil sno u can see tracks set the box up so the hole is right next to there line of travel and boom most of the time ull catch him this year we haven't been blessed with sno so i have been setting on last years locations , and no i haven't caught a mink they don't like dark holes and i usually use coon liver or deer liver for bait b/c of the blood and the smell ...(http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g339/halfrack231/387930_305080156189509_100000625812777_1077034_29178149_n.jpg)

3 boxes out for a week, and so far 12 mice . First time trying this, but the mice are leaving a alot of scent. I just freshened the traps with chicken heads . Still having fun, being that I am now the best mouse trapper in the woods  ;D

My Boxes are 12 inches long by 6 inches square , 1 1/2 inch hole in the back covered in screen, 2 inch hole above center in the front   for the entrance. Jump trap is a kind of leg hold trap. You can check you tube, alot of boxes shown
