I'm sure there is a link to post here but the Assembly has voted 98-40 passing a bill that would ban lead ammo on NYS land,my guess is this would ban all lead bullets for big game and also lead shot and .22 bullets.I don't know anyone that doesn't have an ammo case full of non lead ammo, right now you can't find ammo unless you want to pay way to much for it,and if we go to copper rounds in your deer rifle there is no way you'll find it anyplace for sale.well if it passes the Senate we're fukd.About half the deer I shoot and hunt is on NYS land so I guess i'll have a friend reload 1 box of copper bullets and should get me about 20 years out of it.
I can tell you right not even close to everyone is going to comply with all these F-U-laws NYS is doing with our hunting and fishing rights.

Another one of those days where I say "boy I'm glad I am getting OLD"....h2l
-
I am hoping the DEC officers are smart enough to wait a year or two until they start checking ammo.
I agree this law is complete nonsense. Someone shooting a deer with lead bullets in the Adirondacks effects the water supply for NYC???
-
Another thing is that the law says lead ammo,I hope it doesn't pass the Senete or Gov.doesn't sign it,because that would put an end to hunting Squirrels with .22's unless they start making tin or lead free .22's and also birdshot, steel shot for birds,we talked about this crap at camp yesterday not one person complained lastfall wearing fluorescent orange but when we talked aboiut lead ammo it was unanimous ,no one person said they would comply.

I found this link to this Ammo

Bill # AO5728
Prohibits the use of lead ammunition in the taking of wildlife on wildlife management areas, state forests, forest preserves, state parks or any other state-owned land that is open for hunting and on land contributing surface water to the
New York city water supply.

Hi Again,
The bill applies to the use of lead ammunition for all hunting on state lands and all lands within the New York City watershed (both private lands and public lands owned and managed by the New York City Dept. of Environmental Protection). The bill doesn’t specify what “New York City watershed lands” includes, but here’s a map on the DEC website for reference: https://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/25599.html
check this link : https://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/25599.html.
this was emails I that received back from NY DEC,

to me
Just to clarify, it would be state lands throughout the state, so in that respect it would be statewide. The New York City watershed lands are in the Catskills and Hudson Valley.
Well it looks like STATE WIDE :-[ :-[
-
That’s how I read the proposed bill as well. All state lands and any land, public or private, near the nyc watershed.
Time to write your representatives to voice your opinion

Guess we shouldn’t have shot so many copper BB’s at camp last week…. 8)

Guess we shouldn’t have shot so many copper BB’s at camp last week…. 8)
You did it now Dom-one of those BB's will might roll down the mohawk into the hudson and end up in someones drinking water and might choke on it and then we can't use BB's anymore,we'll have to use frozen water BB's,,,
I think 1 box of copper 30-06's will last me till I buy the farm...
-
They are purposing yo do the same here in some of the federal refuges. I don’t see how one lead bullet here and there is casing an issue.
-
I don't know what these Liberals are thinking about this made up crap if you you ask me,but it's bull crap, they are looking to control our hunting and guns, they are taking away our rights little by little. There is 4.5 million acres of State Land in NY state, thats 196 billion square feet, whats a .30 cal bullet going to do,nothing at all,end up in Hocals glass of drinking water, how about all the natural Lead deposits, the Mercury polution, the crap from the midwest that falls on to the mountains and all the other crap,,,,

Thanks for your question.
None of these proposed bills are current law.
Quote : That being said,
" While the NYS Legislature previously proposed a bill to prohibit lead ammunition
for hunting on NYS land and a rule to ban use lead ammunition on federal land
was recently proposed by President Biden’s administration,
none of these proposed bills are current law.
That said, DEC strongly recommends
that hunters voluntarily switch to non-lead ammunition for hunting
to reduce risk of lead exposure of non-target wildlife and to the people who
consume the harvested game meat.
See this link on the NYS DEC website " Choose Non-Lead Ammunition for more information."
