My first bear with a bow
« on: Aug 06, 2005, 06:18:13 PM »
That should start this thread, so that later I can post the picture.

No.....I haven't taken one yet. The DEC opened up my area to bear hunting. I plan to hunt long and hard. We have several bear on the property and others that cruise through.  I have personally seen 3 in the last 4 years while deerhunting this property, but wasn't allowed to shoot.

I have always wanted to harvest a bear. Don't really care whether it is with bow or gun, but would prefer with bow. Anyone have a link on how to field dress one?
Genesis 9:2 The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea, they are given into your hands.

Hey that looks like an oppurtunity. I posted this before but I'll do it again. Here is my first one got him this spring in Manitoba, We can bait here so with a rifle it just seems a little too easy. Got him a 20 yds and he ran 30
He scores 20 3/16.

I harvested my first bear, yesterday. dressed out at 212 pounds. Some friends and I chased him with hounds for 4 hours till we got him treed. I shot him with my brand new PSE Firestorm lite bow, Bemman ICS Hunter 340 arrows and a 100 grain Sonic Head broad head from American Broadhead Company. Everything went perfect!! I got a double lung shot that sent him reeling in the tree and finished him off with a second arrow thru the spine - right between the shoulder blades. He was dead before he hit the ground. My buddy took this picture   -  big fun!!
