there are tons of good books out there to read..they all give the same basic ideas so to name just one isn't going to help you..buy 2-3 books read them and make up your own mind as to what ideas you think you like best and go from there...as far as what traps to use id use 1.5 or 1.75 coilsprings plenty big if you happen to get a yote...I buy most of my trapping supply's from PCSOUTDOORS.com they have great monthly deals and free shipping over 300 dollars...try going onto youtube and watch videos of other people trapping or skinning out fox/coon I learned how to skin/flesh a coon by watching videos... try pcsoutdoor though its a great company

Like nyduckman said there are alot of books and videos out there , there is alot of videos on  you tube  too watch a couple and see what best fits your interests and get out there and start laying steel . There will be alot of trial and error so don't get discouraged! You could watch the paper shop in the hunting and fishing section for used equipment .you could also look into the pa trappers association http://www.patrappers.com/  not sure which county you are in but alot of times the different districts will have swap meets . good luck

Catching anything CHEZ? I too got started a little later in life with this trapping thing. The best advise I can give you is that there are no hard and fast rules. Try things, modify, experiment and most important DON'T GET DISCOURAGED. I'm still not much of a trapper but do enjoy it. My first year I caught a possum and a skunk. Each year I learn a bit more and have more success. Good luck to you sir!
