Getting back into hunting

<< < (2/2)

LoneWolf:
Thanks buckblaster.

I finally got out to try shooting some trap yesterday.  I went to a WMA with my buddy. I brought both Remington Gun Club and Winchester Target.
I checked the patterns on both at 25 yards using a modified choke. The Gun Club was dead on with a nice pattern. The Win Target was high and the pattern was less consistent.
The first time I tried trap shooting was about a month ago and I was 0 for 10. My problem was I was stopping while shooting .. I guess because I am used to pistol and rifle. Yesterday I was probably 15 for 30 which I was happy with.
The one thing I noticed consistently was I was doing well with the Remington's. With the Winchesters I had to shoot low to get a hit. My buddy who has been shooting trap much longer tried both as well and noticed the same thing. He suggested we try some Estate he had with him. The Estate shot good like the Remington's. I guess I'll be shooting the Remington's in my shotgun.
On another note I got to test out the Wing One hand thrower I purchased. I think it was worth every penny. When we tried throwing last month with the $8.00 plastic thrower the throws were all over the place. With the Wing One they were easier to load, easier to throw and were very consistent. You could also get different types of throws easily. The Wing One cost more .. it was $29.00 delivered .. but there was virtually no learning curve and no wasted discs.

I still have to get out with the rifled barrel and finalize sighting in the scope.

LoneWolf:

Well I haven't had a chance to sight in the rifled barrel yet.
I did spend about an hour today reloading 20 gauge shot shells. I did roughly 120 reloads (with 7.5 shot) this morning and I only had one bad case.

LoneWolf:
I finally got out yesterday to do some testing.
On a good note the reloaded shotshells worked great shooting trap with a friend. I also patterned some Remington Nitro Turkey at 25 yards using a Carlson turkey choke. The patterning was very good .. 17 in the neck and head.
Now for the bad. I went to sight in the rifled barrel with the scope and the "free" scope that came with it is flat out garbage. I just ordered a Bushnell Trophy XLT "Bones Collector" 3-9 x 40. I'm on a budget and from everything I've heard and read this is a reliable "best bang for your buck" scope.
I'm also working on some slug loads. I just finished molding about 90 Lyman 350 grain sabot slugs. I'm hoping to run off another 2-3 hundred tomorrow. Maybe this week I can start loading.

LoneWolf:
Well I ran off another 255 of the slugs. So I have 345 slugs in a pretzel container and I'm ready when I start reloading.
I'm thinking if I load up 25 slug shells before the scope comes in I'll have plenty to sight it in and play with.

khouji:
I'm hunting also again
