Camera works very well.  Have to say I would have had a hard time not drawing on one of the jakes.... ;D

Not a lot of gobbles but lots of hen talk. 3 toms followed a couple hens, then 3 jakes. Details later.

Went in at first light and set up where I heard the gobbles last evening.  No gobbles on the roost so I set up above where I thought they were, didn't want to spook them. Heard a couple gobbles below to the right a ways off; then heard a gobble striaght ahead, much closer, then heard two more from there. Heard lots of hen talk, yelps and cackles, but no more gobbles except the birds that were further off. Eventually saw the hens followed by two full fan toms in strut and another tom with a thick beard, later ranged the tree the went by at 68 yds. Got the hens to within 20 yds behind some small pines and one yelped; heard the toms drumming and could here their wings snap in the leaves as they would go into strut, could also catch glimpses of fans.
Here's what they were behind:

They headed off to the left and about 15 minutes later I heard birds yelping to the right getting closer; turned out to be 3 jakes and they came through the same spot behind the pines. They finally gobbled to my calls as they headed off. Rest of the morning was quiet. Had some good footage of the jakes but deleted the wrong files. :-[

No gobbles tonight, just saw one hen that I flew out of her roost after an owl hoot at 7:30, plenty of light left. Gonna see how hard the rain is tomorrow, might stay in. Things should get better as the hens get bred in the next couple weeks.  ;)

Last year was much further ahead by the opener, this year seems about normal. The same guys complaining about the season starting too late are probably complaining about the toms being henned up this year.  ;D

I forgot to mention, the 3 jakes today were likely the same ones I had gobbling on tape last month, was about 200 yds from there.

Saw this hen feeding this afternoon:

Gobbling good today. Big flock went north, another tom south going good on his own, waiting him out.
