I'm getting a buck decoy tomorrow. Should I try using it for the rest of season or should I keep it for next year?

I would only use a buck decoy during bow season. Too many idiots out there during rifle season. One of them would likely shoot your decoy.

Save your money would be my suggestion, especially in NY, no way I would use one around here.

It would be on private property far away from road or anyone else.
