Wow, I didn't think there was going to be any major changes this year.  Is the point of this to protect bucks or is it to increase the doe harvest?  I don't think it will increase the doe harvest.  Those, like myself, who hunt for food will take a shot whenever the conditions are right.  Those who only want a buck will just wait.   That's just my opinion, time will tell I guess.  In the area I hunt I don't believe the bucks need any protection, they are doing just fine!  jperch

I thought it was to help the buck to doe ratio in those areas as it would increase doe harvest and decrease buck.

It's not so bad

I hunt 4J which is one of the zones. From 10/16 until 12/13 you can shoot a buck. I normally see the big ones during that stretch so trophy hunting isn't shut down and meat hunting is still allowed.

Works for me    8)

I am not convinced that this will increase the doe harvest. The guys I know that hunt those areas always take the same number of does no matter what. It will obviously eliminate those easy to pattern early season buck kills and the late season bucks getting killed over good food sources.

I hate to say this but the only way to make people shoot a doe is to force them to earn a buck tag by shooting a doe.

The earn a buck system would work in the south. The trouble we have in 6k is they give out nuisance permits to all the farmers plus dmps to hunters. They're really isn't much left out there these days especially since the amish came in. They need to get rid of dmps in the north. We can take does with the bow and muzzeloader there is no need for permits.

I agree I think a earn a buck would be a great idea for most of the state.  I don't think they should have it for the ADK's though

I guess I just don't understand what is wrong with the way things are.... Why would anyone not shoot a doe?

I don't understand it either I love shooting them.  I know families that don't shoot does and the reason is because of there grandfather.  As years ago when deer we far a few between in many places in the state they didn't shoot does just bucks. They still go by that mentality.

There is some farmers around here that think like that, It's old and stupid but it is what it is.

I am not really for the "earn a buck tag" idea, I am just saying that is the only way to make people shoot a doe.

How much would it stink to have to let a 10 point walk because you couldn't get a shot at a doe yet?!  :o
