That's good....seeing how it needs to be on the deer when reaching a road or the "back yard".... :P
Just me I guess....people are generally trust worthy in the outdoor sports.....but then you hear of stolen stands, cams....etc...

ha ha...on the pic I have it is where his hand is on the left side...its a NY tag too...I hope it is legit...stories like that are good for hunting...especially in NY...

No reason for skepticism when a record is potentially broken the first day of legal hunting. I don't know him from Adam so I have no idea, but to be honest I'm always skeptical of big buck. Only because I personally think less than 50% are taken legally.

My hunting partner who lives in Clayton sent me the pic yesterday and he said it was taken near Burrville which is just outside Watertown. It ain't pretty but it sure is huge.

For the shooters sake I hope so...Not sure if you could buy last years bow tag...and then this years to hunt the first four days....would be up to whether he had a bow license before or a card printed before last year's season.....I'm hoping it was just his first archery deer....That would make a better story in my eyes...guy hunts for a few years and doesn't get one...then the first one he shoots makes the book....very cool....
I'm sure DEC will be all over it, and we'll find out the details soon.... 8)

It was his first time bow hunting ..... not hunting.... but you guys make a good point about how he had a tag from last year ... so for it to be legal and a true story about his first bow hunt he would have had to have bought one last year and not gone hunting .... as someone said the plot thickens :o

The pics of the antlers cut off the skull were surprising to me. I could understand not wanting to leave them at the taxidermists, but even for me not being a trophy hunter I would not cut that deers skull up.

my neighbor hunts out west Ohio and Illinois and spends a month in Canada you should see some of the mounts this guy has absolutely huge. he always brings home his meat already packaged and just the rack cut off the skull,then has his taxidermist create a mount with to the rack :o ???

you would still need the bow privilege license from last year to use last years reg season tag. like someone else said he could have just used both tags for black powder. I know a few people that do that.

guy down the road from me killed a big 10 a few years ago opening day of rifle. i helped him drag it out.
later that winter at a local watering hole i heard all kinds of stories about how he snuck onto posted property and shot it. ppl even claimed they chased him out of the woods after he shot it cuz they heard the shot but never found the deer. so he must have came back after dark and got it out. :o
congrats to this lucky soul on the buck of a lifetime and may the urine of jealousy not put out his fire!

So as it turns out the guy that shot this buck is brothers with a local guy who's son has been going to school with my daughter...my wife saw a bunch of different pictures of it tonight and heard the whole story from him at the kids swim practice...story is a bit strange but there are a lot of good people who I know who confirm it...

I have no problem with how someone wants to hunt as long as it is legal. It is a nice deer. That said, anybody who wants to pay the big bucks ( no pun intended) should man up and tell the true story behind it. Maybe the people that do that type of hunting just want it to appear as "real" hunting....hunts2long

If it comes out that he did infact shoot it in a canned hunt, or took it in some other way I think they should make an example out of him.

looking at the first pic jager posted it looks like the guy should have used the two grand to buy some teeth to fill in the missing ones. I also think that two grand for a deer like that sounds more fishy than the origanal story. personally I could care less if it was a paid hunt, a bow kill, a gun kill, a crossbow kill, a night time kill or a legit kill. will not affect me either way.

This buck is on the deer and deer hunting magazine web site too stating it could be a new record for NYS. It is now being reported on the web site that his brother contacted the magazine yesterday and appologized for sending them the pictures and it was in fact shot in an enclosure and then transported to alleged kill site.
