Got 4B with my first choice (was listed as high for 1st and none for 2nd)  ...  didnt get 4J which was high and medium with my 2nd

figured i would roll the dice... 4B is my zone when i walk to my stand... 4J is a quarter mile away and offers unlimited tags ...  so i am happy enough

if anyone doesn't have any interest in a second choice and wants to try for a 4J instead of nothing i'd be happy to try and fill it for you if you transfer it to me  ;)

All these number/letters are consfusing, I dont know how you guys know what is what. Maryland is divided into two Regions A and B. If you got two tags does that mean you can shoot two doe's?
Title: Re: DMP Draw
Post by: frank9pt on Aug 30, 2011, 07:10:09 AM
It means you can shoot two does, but in the area you chose and got the tag for.

I see. So its not a random thing where they draw the area for you.

Joe Snag they cheated you. >:(

Post by: frank9pt on Aug 30, 2011, 07:17:25 AM
They give you a preety good idea if you're gonna get a tag or not.
http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/30409.html
If you don't get a tag this year, you do get a preferance point to put towards next year.

So if your a landowner do you automatically get a DMP?
Title: Re: DMP Draw
Post by: Raquettedacker on Aug 30, 2011, 07:29:20 AM
NOOOOOOOOOOOO....
If you own enough land you can get nuisance permits.....
Title: Re: DMP Draw
Post by: drobertsinMaryland on Aug 30, 2011, 07:35:52 AM
I see, that makes sense. Does the DEC then decided if you really need the permit?
Title: Re: DMP Draw
Post by: jlaclair on Aug 30, 2011, 08:31:36 AM
if you own 50+ acres you automatically get one for your area, to have nuisance permits you need to own over 150 acres I believe, at which point the DEC bases the areas population density of deer on how much acreage you have and designate you an amount of tags. more does, more tags, also I believe if you have agricultural property you can get more due to crop damage... and with the DMP you are allowed to recieve 2 other DMP tags from anyone willing to sign them over to you
Title: Re: DMP Draw
Post by: drobertsinMaryland on Aug 30, 2011, 08:46:42 AM
I am surprised they let you guys sign tags over to someone else. I don't know of to many states that allow this.

Title: Re: DMP Draw
Post by: stka on Sep 04, 2011, 12:09:46 PM
PP's are only used on the first choice. If you you miss the first and get the second you get a PP. In the past I've used my first choice on a LO/Dis Only unit to get denied and gain a PP. But, no matter what the first choice is, if you get it you lose all your PP's.

I'll try if I can, I like to take a doe in 4J and have the bonus tag in case I get a buck in 5R during bow season. Then I can keep hunting bucks in 4J until the regular season opens. I've never shot a decent buck, so I hate the idea of doe hunting without a buck tag because I know very well what will happen.

Those western NY wmu's seem pretty easy to get a dmp for.

Typically there is a reason for that and it's simple, larger #'s of doe's, if you shoot doe inteh north country you are really asking for low #'s the following years, mother nature takes care of the DMP quota up there.  I would recommend taking the 2-3hr ride and shooting your doe's there.

There seem to be plenty of deer, but no more than we usually see.  Most of my hunting is done in 7J, 6K and 7M, but I know getting a tag in 6K and 7M is close to imposable.

Just picked up my license from Herb Philipsons in Liverpool. I got a permit for 8M and denied 7F.
An ad in Sundays paper promotes a $10 coupon with license purchase. I looked at the ad multiple times to be sure there were no stipulations. After I bought my $98 license the sales clerk handed me the $10 coupon that is valid only when you purchase another $50 worth of Hunting, Camping or Fishing purchases. That is NOT what the ad states.  When I brought this up to the manager his response was "yeah".  And clearly showed he did not care and he made no effort to honor the ad or communicate that it was a misprint.  Not even an apology for the misunderstanding. Now I'm pissed.  I've been a retail manager for well over 20 years and have run stores in excess of 65 million in sales per year, I have always treated my customers with the utmost respect.  I have always taken time to communicate our policies as well as listen to their concerns.  I have a genuine appreciation for the customers needs.  I understand it was a clear misprint but the thing that really upset me most what his lack of concern towards me as a customer.   He didn't even make eye contact with me.  If he was one of my managers he would have been fired! Customer service is number 1 over everything else.   I will not be returning there anytime soon!  So if you happen to go in and see Gordon the manager feel free to tell him about my post.

Don't blame you a bit Griff.  I would take a copy of the ad in to the owner and explain if it is advertised as such they have to honor it. Otherwise, it is false advertising. Places should be very caring when someone wants to spend their money these days.
Some are just not cut out for retail....

didn't want to chance it and not get drawn for the area I really want to hunt so I put all my eggs in one basket and was lucky enough to draw two 7J tags ;D. with the extras available in nov. that'll make 7 tags to fill in about a month. figure in a few days down in PA catching up with my friend and looking for a nice buck and it comes out to a bit over 1.5 deer down a week. thank god i'm on the alaska fit program ;) boy am I excited! really looking forward to hunting hard every day with no comitments getting in the way from mid nov. on

Got both permits for 3S (Westchester Bow only) and my Daughter got both for 3N Putnam. It will be her first time deer hunting so this should be fun! Good luck everyone and be safe!

Got 2 for 7S, one for myself and one for my son. 7S was our second choice which we got turned down for when we first applied.
