I migt try to get mine back out this weekend, on my bow spot this time. I've been posting my pics under the picture threads. I'm putting ant traps on the back of my cameras this summer to try to avoid another infestation.

Just curious why you guys don't want to put them under the trail cam section? That's cool if it's just for New York. Just title it New York Trail Cam Pics 2010. I bugged Scott til we got that section just want to keep it alive. Promise I won't post any of my pics in there.

Checked my cams today and I saw some good bone growth. Pics to come shortly.

Joe is that an Wild game inovations IR4? I have the IR4's and have batteries with 2 of the 4 I have and I have no issues with the other two. The ones I havent had issues with have a place on the back of the camara for a watch battery to keep the date and time. If yours have that make sure there is a battery in there or it will drain the batteries.

My other plot is about 4 times the size--have to get some  lime and fertalizer---i was told to get triple 18---but another guy said 0-20-20,,,so does anyone here have an idea?it is really crappy gravely ground with the weeds shaved off?????
Title: Re: Trail Cam Pics 2010
Post by: Deposit on Aug 11, 2010, 08:56:07 PM
what did they recoment with the soil test?. I was told, and read in some articles, the most imortant part was the lime. You could for go the fetalizer if you had to. I had to use 10 lbs of 15-15-15 and 5 lbs of 0-20-20 together for 1000 square feet. my soil is also mainly clay, but it seems to be working.

I had the soil next to the plot tested,it needs lime--I had another  guy said don't give them nitrogen this time of the year??i'll write the food crop company today -I'l be working in Danube all morning and checking all the fields there for wildlife,,then up to Jerseyfield in the boonies in bear country, working on about 200 acres there...

Today working back in jerseyfield country on a 200acre wood lot I walked upon a neighbors trail cam and left it alone --I see about 5-10 of these a year working, also today 1 nice tree stand on our land we're working on,about 20 piles of bear crap, tons of black berries---

Some jobs I'll see 5 treestands in one day, sometimes I'll go up and sit in them ,many time these stands are in a bad spot, like in a hemlock tree and you can't see at all!! but every once in a while one is in a prime spot,,I found one last fall with a trap door in the bottom,,I climbed up the ladder and pushed up the door,,squirrels chewed up the foam insulation in the roof,,when i poened the door I was showered with little foam balls, they had to be 6" deep on the floor of that box stand----

Raquett---it was just a local kill--most of the hunters in Northville area raised heck about ,many friends live near the yard too--early winter and alot of deer in the area go to there to winter, season was still open and and it was like shooting chickens in a pen--locals said it sounded like a war, they estimated 200 doe's and 50 bucks were killed in 1 week in one spot-thats when tthe DEC had a meeting at northville high school and listened to the hunters for once--the DEC did change the 5H line from county rt4 to southerly to rt30 to Gloversville then up rt29 so 5H around the deer yard would not have a late Blackpowder season.also in my area the DEC shot-I believe- around 24 deer in the spring 2 years ago looking for cronic waisting disease--and not many heard about this-------------------disclaimer--note some of my facts may be close but not exact---

I have a good friend that lives in Northville, old timer and great sportsman taught me alot about huntin and fishin.  He used to run a Charter Boat near my house and I used to work for him.  We used to take Paul Bradt fishing and I came up there and he showed me his museum right in the center of town.  Pretty neat!  I always remember the Bald Eagle that he had mounted in there and all the other awesome mounts.  If I remember right he had mounts of deer from a unicorn all the way to 12 point, I think he was missing and never killed an 11 point...long time ago but something and a person I always remembered.  My friend has a cabin up there way back in the woods...beautiful place, 100% hand made cabin...

My friends name is Jim Vroman..he lives way up on a hill back in the woods, been a long time, I think is was like King Road or something like that...?  I use to work for him on Lake Ontario...Scorpio Charters from age 12-18...He was a master Adirondack Hunter...he had a giant 11 point at his house mounted and a giant 13 point at his house all killed hunting way back in, I believe near Pharoh Lake in a wall tent...he taught me a lot about hunting and the woods and fishing too...!  Great guy, he was friends with Paul...

If I remember right that is where he is...he built a Log Cabin with the trees on his property, he don't even have electricity, everything is power from a generator and deep cell batteries, beautiful place, been a long time since I was there to visit...it was the last place at the end of the road...

some dipwit put a ladder against a grave in a small backwoods cemetary to a home made tree stand---

There seems to be a lot of those old cemetaries around. There are several graves right at the corner on my place in the trees. I have also found the old cemetary in the rual grove forest (looks like a good place to hunt but would be to spooky sneaken in there early in the morning ::)  )

Great pictures Joe... I love your office....The old grave stone is awesome...  Depends on how old David Hamilton was when he died but he was probably born in the 1700's...   Cool...

You can't beat that office, I'm sure with the heat and some of the places you have to get into it isn't always peaches and cream.
Thanks for sharing part of your life with us.
Don't think I could sit in a tree stand with the bottom of it on someones grave.....Takes all kinds!

yeah, i had a job the other summer that involved a good bit of surveying. I had never had a class or any other training but it was super easy to pick up and use. Makes everything so simple. You can shoot amazingly far with the prism if you have line of sight (we were doing something like 1/2 a mile or more in CO). Really did enjoy the work.

I saw a buck like that about 7 years ago. On top of a mountain very close to where Halfrack is. It was bedded just off a logging header, where they had pushed the limbs and debris off. It was pretty foggy that morning, and my father in law and brother in laws had dropped me off to sit a watch. As I was putting my pack on and looking to see where to watch, he stood up. I had the gun leaning against a tree, the straps of my pack not quite to my shoulders. All of a sudden he just appeared...
He was watching them continue down off the mountain in my brother in laws truck. As I tried to get my pack back off and reach for my rifle he looked right at me...
I got the gun in my hands and he bolted...Ran right between the guys and myself... ::)  I couldn't shoot, If one of the guys had been looking back up the road,
he crossed only 50 yards from them. I can still see him standing there....His rack was way wider than his body when he was running away from me.
A couple years later a guy shot a huge 160"+ 12 point on the same mountain.
They're here, just don't get that big by being dumb....

That's right people!! I am the lucky one. I have captured this slamming buck for the last 4 weeks. I have 4 pics of him, these two are the best ones. Others are blurry. These other two bucks are definitely shooters too. It will be difficult to choose though. Lots of pics this year. I will keep them coming. Put my camera (1) in one area out on 8/11/2010 and have over 165 pics to date.

Just a note: Anyone hunting for a camera, I highly reccommend the Bushnell. My wife bought me this camera at Wal-Mart and I was a little skeptical, but it has been great. Fairly in-expensive $115. Put 4 new batteries in it on 8/11/2010 and still good to go. I go and switch the SD cards out about every 3-4 days and have had a minimum of 8 pics per day. All pics of deer!! No birds, no limbs, no squirrels, just deer. It has been outstanding!!!

And for the record - yes I am very pumped to get into the stand this year. The best thing is my 8 yr old son will be sitting with me this year and he his more excited than I am. Just ordered his treestand lastnight. Very excited. Hopefully I will get a shot at the slammer, or any of them.

upstate, you are right about that!! My oldest boy is so pumped. he asked to see the trail cam pics almost every night. My 3 yr old goes to check the camera with us, we have seen some deer while walking in and now he whispers the minute we get out of the truck. I shut the truck door the other day and he says, dad shhhhhh, don't scare the deer!! lol My 8 yr old has not been looking forward to school coming. So I told him if school doesn't come, then hunting season doesn't come, - he was ready for school to get here.
Funny story! The 9 point I posted with my youngest boy, I shot in 2008. My 8 yr old wanted to go and sit with his uncle that hunt. I told him don't be mad at me if I shoot a slammer!! He said yeah, yeah... I shot and the buck went down and I got on the radio and told my son that I needed help to drag this doe out. When he got over the deer and saw the horns he was so bummed out that he wasn't with me. He has sat with me ever since.

those bucks look a lot alike. They are all very symetrical, they must have some good nutirents around. Keep scouting! It's nice to see live things happening around where you are hunting. This is the first year for me with a trail camera, and I absolutely love it. I don't know how I scouted with out it. I just always assumed where the deer were traveling. But now there is proof in the making. Takes a lot of the guessing out of it.

I got my cuddeback last year and love it.. the big buck was around last year til right before archery opened and disappeared. I thought someone got him early.. I never saw him all season long..then he shows back up this year.. almost the exact same rack as last year, but maybe a touch taller, I hope he sticks around this year!

Man I tell you one thing you have a slammer of a buck on your cam, he is short on G1's but makes it up all through I bet you have a upper 170 class buck, hopefully it wasn't his summer hold out and he is around in a few more weeks I would love to see a better pic of him and let me know I would love to score him up for NBBC if you tag him.

33Canuck - I think you may be right on the money. I had a buddy enhance the picture thru a microsoft imager program and it looks as if the one tine splits off the left G2. Which means it will score as a base 9pt. So I may only push upper 160's. If it is a seperate G tine, this deer is looking at making a run for the State record if taken during archery. 180 7/8 is the state record. If this buck is scored as a 10 point it shows about only 5" of deductions or so. G2's look to be about 13-14" tall. Main beams about 25"-26" inside about 20". He's a big one!! My heart pumps just knowing he is close, and out there. Never thought I would see a buck like that - ever!! Now it's right in the 'back yard'.

snag - your secret is safe with me guy. We need to finalize at work day because I have to fill out the application for the park. They issue permits. Bow hunting is 100% that apply, but then they use a lottery for shotgun. Never have been denied though.

I'd leave that spot alone for a bit bbb. Big bucks are real sensitive to pressure of any kind. Even a little scent in his home will send
him hiding. Boy I sure do hope you get your hands on that rack though!!!!

Sure is a "good" looking table fare guy Joe....Sorry I know the trophy hunters will not agree but if he walked into my shooting lane he would get
a hole in him. Last season I would have given everything I have to see a buck, let alone a deer!! Readjusted my perspectives a little.
Nice pic!!

upstate-great idea!! I have adjusted going to check the camera only once a week. I will not check again until Wednesday. I will adjust again before the start of the season. To ten days or so. I have to hang my sons treestand though. I think I will have time on wednesday to do it. Most of the limbs and lanes are cut, just need to hang it. I wish these freakin leaves would fall off. Can't see s-#t!! Hows the leaves up north?

snag - nice pic. This deer comes in front of me, the next thing he will be is in the frying pan. Big weekend, coming up; a little work day at camp and some clams, some friends, definitely beer, and yeah I guess I will bring all my pics up to show off too...

The leaves are thick bbb. Last week when I went to try to hang a stand for a particular deer, I couldn't see more than 10-25 yards.
Guess that's why he is traveling that route. I may have a surprise for him though, made up a nice portable blind. Will sneak in and
set up close to the runway. Sometimes you have to just give it a shot.

I'm telling you. I never believed it either until I got this trail camera up and running. About a week before full moon, during full moon and a few days after full moon, the deer movement is next to nothing. Most movement I have noticed is during last quarter and new moon. Weird uh?? Anybody else realize this? I know its been researched and I have read about in magazines but never really believed it I guess. Pretty bizarre.

You are right not cool any way you look at it. It's also been my experience if someone is willing to go on posted land without getting permission
they will take stuff that doesn't belong to them. Just may have been that he seemed to be looking at the camera but didn't actually see it.

Deer here have definitely changed patterns lately. Seems as if they are not using deer trails as much and just meandering thru the woods browsing. Seems like there getting into the acorns a bit now. Agriculture is dying down so they are not traveling as much. But always remember: where there is does, there will be bucks.

That would be awkward...I did put my stand up in the dark once in a spot where we had scouted a few weeks earlier...went out in the morning got all set up...sun came up...I noticed a huge pile of apples about 30 yards from my stand and an apple tree about 60 yards away...then I heard something crashing through the brush and here comes some knucklhead right under my stand...he was going to sit about 40 yards from me in an old rickety wooden stand that was there...just happened to be be about ten yards from that pile of apples  :-\  I climbed down and found a new spot, didn't want no part of that argument...I like putting my stand the night before so I don't have to fumble around in the dark, but in this case some daylight would have saved me from having to move again...

They usually sell bear proof boxes for trail cams. Look into the Sportsmans Guide. Most of the new camera's are lacking in the security department. I purchased a new cuddyback last year and there is no real way of locking it up tight. This year I have found the bear boxes that allow you to lag the box into the tree, and have a pad lock installed on the covers. Usually the boxes are around $50. Hope this helps some. For the cost of the camera's these days... who can afford to loose even one.

Checked my cam after 2 weeks...330 pics! Memory card malfunction so I can't view them. Sooooo mad! Never buy the Primos cans, they suck!

On a side note, I have a Primos truthcam 46 for sale if anyone is interested  ;D

I paid 120, 150 and its yours! Seriously though I would feel bad even selling it because its such junk. U should have known better. I've never had one good experience with any Primos product ever. It's cheap junk meant to be sold to suckers at sap mart and dicks

Is it still under warranty halfrack33? If it is I would be sending it back first. I know a few people that have the Truth Cam 60 and like it.

I have a bushnell 8mp, or rather I will when the replacement gets here. It took nice pictures once since then just ate batteries for six weeks. $200- and it didn't do me any good this year, I'd sooner get another moultrie even with a bad display.
