however, it seems that there are more NORTH people on this site that are active participants in general - may not be a fair contest but I'll certainly do my fair share of thinning out the herd

Yup, it was the one we were wondering if it was a piebald. I had a clos encounter with this deer in the summer "Glassing" w/ my nephew also...

I've now seen six different bucks at my stand (and more does), should be able to put up a few points for the south. COME ON SATURDAY the suspense is killing me! Just checked the camera yesterday and there were two deer in the pasture already before 6pm and I jumped something out from around the camera, looked like a coyote, but I wasn't sure.

Though I personaly got a chuckle, I'm not sure those pics would from the non hunters. With the amount of antis we have out there, no need to encourage the non hunter who doesn't have an opinion yet. They may join the wrong side and work to end hunting.

well the good news is i got a deer. The bad news is i thought it was a doe and walked up to it to find a button buck. Embarassed and upset right now but will still post a pic in a while for the north. This is why people don't like muzzleloader season i guess :-[
Halfrack, it happens. I'm feeling worse than you are today. I shot a doe last night and couldn't recover it. I had a great blood trail for ~75yds and then nothing. Pretty sure I hit it high but didn't see the hit. By the time I got to where i lost the trail it was raining heavy, the las spot i found was actually floating on a wet leaf. Two of us spent about two hours looking before I had to give up, I'll head back out today to look in the day light but even if I find it I'm sure the coyotes have already got there I chased two more out of the field on my way in.

Not very much farm land in most spots if any at all. Chances are 90 percent of the land on your way to Pulaski is southern tier

I broke in my brand new 270 WSM pretty good with the 10 pointer this morning. My buddy (he's on this site but not active anymore) drew first blood, then I finished it off. 175lbs. Were doing pretty good, theres 6 of us, and everytime we've been hunting we've killed one.

I agree, it would be nice to see a carcass tag on the deer, but as far as I know you can only get two buck tags here in NY. Assuming I can use my DMAP doe(or two) for a point?

I gave my son the model700 .270 this week. I have lost all desire to be in the woods anymore. Sucks to spend all your free time to create a little area to hunt for you and your family only to have every Tom Dick and Harry in there, stealing stands and trashing property so we loose permission to hunt. Sorry to rant just mad as hell and quite dejected.

Depending upon where St. Johnsville falls on your north vs. south battle I actually do have a New York address. We have just begun building a hunting camp there on some land that my father has owned for 22 years. And yes, we do have some big bucks running around, very similar to the adirondacks. My biggest to date was a very healthy 6ptr that dressed 232lbs.nice buck... St. Johnsville? I have lots of relatives from there....

This is a fun competition and it can definitely get better every year...Everyone knows that the true hunters learned to master this sport in the Northern Woods of this great state...when I go to my camp in Ithaca it is like shooting ducks on a pond!LOL ;D Hopefully next year the Super Duper Sportsman stays under $100 bucks...hunting licences are going up like gas prices...

I'm having lots of issues in my personal life. House foreclosed on car died, wife in a deep depression and catatonic most of the time. The stress involved with as a manager of a home center in this economy. Made hunting stressful. Will get back on my feet and get one.

Seems the deer are still very nocturnal. Need some cold and snow to get them going in the daylight.
They've really been moving a lot around me during the day. I haven't been out much but the camera shows bucks going by during all morning and evening hours. I took a drive on the wheeler last week and saw a buck mounting a doe and the four wheeler wasn't enough to stop him lol. Ive even saw a 10 pointer on the side of the Northway in Albany on my way to a class the other day at about 2pm. I think they're moving a bit more. i never got pics of bucks all year until now on the camera, and im getting more bucks than does. Taking my lady out on sunday... putting a scent dripper out friday morning so hopefully theyll be patterned or interested by sunday

Wish this was my vacation week. The guy who delivers fuel oil in our area stopped into the store today to tell me he saw the biggest buck he has ever seen. Chasing a doe across the river towards my moms where we hunt. Sure at 11:30am and I am at work. He counted 6 long points a side, tines were at least a foot he said. Rack was bobbing side to side as he slipped and slid across behind the doe. Maybe he will find something he likes over on my side and stay.
With your gun season opening just means all the good hunters from the north will just pile them up.....

Well at 72, Dad showed that he can still get it done. 5 points for the NORTH!!!!!
We had just talked on the radios when I heard the "crack" of his '06. I get back on te radio and asked "was that you?" Of course was all he said. I asked if the deer was down.... "Yep", I'm on my way, My son chimes in, so am I !! Cut through the swamp to where he is & he's still in the ladder stand we set up for him.
He said he kept watching the foam on the creek becuse it was a "white flash". Well after about the 100th time he looked at it, he noticed this bad boy crossing the creek right above the foamy spot. He made a 75 yd shot through the brush to drop this boy in his tracks !!!
Best part about it was that we had 3 generations of us there together when we got to the deer. I got to show my son again how to dress one out and let dad & my father in-law take an easy walk out while I dragged.

The Governor wants to cut the deficit well cut some trees. I don't mean clear cut it by any means just selective harvest that will also allow for the browse to grow so these deer will actually have something to eat

Went for a small 1 man push and kicked him up about a hundred yards away. Saw he had a limp so I pulled up on him. Shot him as he was running at about 150 yds thru the neck. DRT. Really would of let him go for a bigger one. Ended up having a broken back leg from a bullet hole in probably the past 24 hrs. Would of been a real nice buck at 2.5 years old. But No, Team New York has to Kill Tomorrows Trophys Today!!

Tell JJ thats a beauty. What county did he get that stud? And a story?Cattauraugus County town Randolph. Two does came in from down hill and the buck was following. came straight at JJ . He gave it to him at 60 yards right in the neck. Started to do a Texas mount for my buddy JJ the other day. One side of the lower jaw on this buck was busted in half. After I got him out of the boiling pot with borax/mule train I see that a antler tine went up into it's upper pallete. Busted his upper mouth up pretty bad. Good thing JJ got him cause I think this buck would of died of infection. Will post pictures later of the damage done. God these animals really do fight to the death. Would like to see the other buck that kicked his A**.

I like to say that the 'road traveled' or the 'journey' is what makes a trophy and not his headgear. After a tough season putting many miles on them boots and not scoring, I'm sure that is a very meaningful buck for you guys and camp. A good clean kill shared by good friends and family is as sweet as it gets. Congrats again.
I wish more guys could understand this.......

Enjoy your brew Joe...I took a walk today also no tracks but did see where my jerk neighbor put up 2 lock on stands 5 feet his side of the property line faceing my direction..He must have done it sometime yesterday..Put one in on your side facing him and beat him on stand in the morning. That will teach him! Cheeks out!!! 8)

Hey i did not hear or see the Snow Geese this year. Anyone see or hear them?
I saw 3 BIG flocks flying last Saturday & Sunday. They were way high. I could hear them and really had to look hard to pinpoint them. When I finally did there had to be hundreds in each flocks easily.two weekends ago I saw hundreds and hundreds of them flying in and landing on cassadaga lake it was a real cool thing to watch the flocks were non-stop for quite a while. Even people with no interest in the birds were blown away by the amount of them and the amount of noise they made. I wish I had a camera or a video camera when it was happening . It appears they have since moved on.

i say tape measure next to questioable antlers. Many were submitted with little nubs that counted as points, or it was such a bad picture you could see nothing but a beam and 7 points would go up. We show pics of the measured deer on mff and Is, why not on here?
How about individual awards for stuff like biggest buck or most points scored by one person. Just for a banner or somethin to put under your username like on IS where they give awards for biggest pike, perch etc. Just an idea let me know if its stupid lol

Old Forge is a Zoo right now with all the sleds!! Lots of guys on trails here by my house also; and plenty of snow! I'm in Northern Oneida CountyYeah we wanted to stay away from Old Forge, too many sleds on the trrails and not everybody likes to do the 55mph spped limt. I don't like bringing my 13 yr old or wife up there driving his own sledse
