wild boar hunting with handguns
« on: Dec 02, 2005, 10:26:49 AM »
Has anyone else hunted wild boar with a hand gun? I am thinking about hunting with my .357 in February. I am having a scope put on mu gun. I just want to know if anyone else has done this and at what caliber.

If you call a blitz gun (a captive bolt gun) a hand gun it is the only way I have ever shot a boar, except those boar weren't wild. but the gun is a .45cal most time it only takes one shot.

That's not very much gun for a hog. You'd have to take close shots.  In my opinion, I'd use a .44mag or better.

After re-reading my first post, I thought "They ALL have to be fairly close shots with a handgun!"  I am sure many hogs are killed with a .357. They're just better shots than I am. Of course, almost EVERYONE is a better shot than me! ;D

well i have done it twice to the wild russian's around here. wild boar have a super tough gristle called a sheild that covers the ideal broadside shot the best angle is quarting away. i shot a boar with a 44 mag at 20 feet. hit the sheild and watch it bounced off..

i got it with a second shot...
