Chez, I wasn't sure I could put it the proper terms so I looked it up. Here's the difference between the .270 caliber and the .280 caliber. The differences are .1 in the combustion chamber diameter and the bullet diameter of a .270 is .277 and the bullet diameter of a .280 is .284 and both were produced by necking down a 30-06 case. The basic difference between both cartridges amounts to the bullet diameter difference of .007. In other words both cartridges are essentially the same. If there is any advantage to the .280 it's the ability to go up to a 175 grain bullet where the .270 tops out at 150. I hope that clears up any misconception regarding both of those fine calibers.

In a nutshell Peddler is right. 7mm has wayyyyyyyyyyyy more bullet choices if you choose to load your own though, vs. .270 bullets.

FYI 7mm Mauser rounds work out of my .280 Rem. fine..............

aqua........ absolutely correct about bullets everybody splits hairs when it comes to calibers, my 130 gr SST Hornady Superformance ammo will outshoot a lot of handloads and you know as well as I if they are hit in the right spot all of them will do the job very well.

Right on! I shoot the Hornady superformance SST's out of my Ruger compact .308, man those things are loaded HOT! The one thing I don't like about them though is they get so hot the casing expands and when you eject them with the bolt action you gotta use a little more force. Don't get me wrong they don't split or anything dangerous like that but they take a split second more time to chamber a new round. ( vs. other factory loads, I know all casings expand a little when they are hot like most things  ::) )

LOL, leave the Ross for the Canadiens, and don't waste the extra money for an Ackley it's not worth the extra 100 fps.
Go Rem. for sure!

Agree on the straight pull, but I'm a traditionalist I find the straight pull kind of ugly.

I see on their site Ruger just started making a .280 rem. again I may need to get it ::). As if I need 3 though ::).

I saw remington just came out with a model 700 100th anniversary 375 H&H what a sharp looking rifle, would love to buy it for a moose/bear gun.......

A A , It's a great old cartridge.Boddington says the .375 Ruger is a little better, but what that little difference is doesn't mean squat. I guess I'm a traditionalist, I'd go with the H & H myself.
