280 remington.
« on: Apr 22, 2012, 11:31:08 AM »
site is quiet. just thought i would ask if anyone uses a 280 remington?i own 4 of them.think its one of the best calipers out there.i have killed deer bear and caribou with this caliper.im using a 280 for the last 26 years now.it was first called the 7mm express.i have taken deer in the carolinas up to 350 yards.killed caribou in canada out to 450.im a big fan of this caliper.i started with the 3030 then 35 to a 308 i liked the 308 a lot.but never seem to drop a deer in its tracks unless for a neck shot.went to the 280 and found my caliper of choice.production of them is down next to nothing.remington still makes one in the cdl and rugar makes one in the mark 5.i own a lot of rifles but this is my favorite caliper.i have a second favorite rifle its a custom made 17 akley hornet.what a fall turkey gun.this gun shoots 3/4 inch groups at 200 yards.providing there is no strong wind.well it was just something to talk about.good luck spring gobbler season.

.280's a great caliber, I just got a 6.5 Creedmoor for my wife. I shoot a .257 Roberts or a .270 depending on the day.

Hands down my most favorite caliber ever! My go to rifle for anything! I am one of the biggest .280 rem. fans you will ever meet. Just got a new .280 about a month ago, Browning X-bolt, man is it SWEET!  Win. Ballistic Silvertip 140's for me.................

yup, my favorite, have a Winchester .280, love shooting the silvertips out of it, I can rack that bolt pretty fast too, one day had two does hit the ground at the same time while still looking through the scope, fast, accurate, pretty flat shooting with a lot of shock, shot a coyote 450 yards one day with it too, mainly hunt with my bow now but when I take a rifle its that one

IM GLAD TO FIND THERE IS SOME 280 FANS OUT THERE.IF I COULD ONLY HAVE ONE RIFLE IT WOULD BE MY 280.I HAVE A KIMBER 270 ITS A SWEET GUN BUT DONT HAVE THE SHOCKING POWER OF A 280.A TINY BIT FASTER.BUT HOW AND WHERE I DO MOST OF MY HUNTING.I PREFER THE SHOCKING POWER OF THE 280.I HAVE A 4570 MARLIN GUIDE CARBINE.SHOT 1` DEER IN THE CHEST WENT RIGHT DOWN BUT TORE THE S**T OUT OF RIBS AND FRONT SHOULDERS.ITS GOT SHOCKING POWER TOO BUT, I LIKE A LITTLE MORE THAN BURGER OUT OF THE DEER.YOU DONT READ TOO MUCH ON 280 REM. IN THE HUNTING MAGAZINES IT TOO BAD.I THINK ITS A FADDING CALIPER. I OWN2 RUGAR MARK 4S 1 REMINGTON MOUTAIN RIFLE "MY FAVORITE" AND 1 REMINGTON PUMP.I LL HOLD ONTO THESE TILL I DIE THEN MY BOYS WILL HAVE THEM.IT WAS A GOOD TOPIC FOR A RAINY SUNDAY.TAKE CARE GUYS.

I don't think it is fading if anything I think it may be slowly coming back. If the .270 didn't appear just before it and Jack O'Conner wasn't obsessed with it I think it would be one of the most popular rounds anywhere.

I have one in model 70 and in X-bolt.

I don't have a .280 Remington but always had an interest in it and is on the I want list.  I haven't seen too many over the years and it seemed when I just bought something I'd end up finding a .280, just my luck.  There are a few I'd like to get but on my must have list there is the .350 Remington Magnum, .17 Remington Center-fire (not the Fireball), 6mm Remington, and 8mm Remington Magnum.  I have a .270 Winchester that is the cat's a**, if you place the shot right it's lights out on the spot.  Jack O'Connor  was the number one gin writer fan of the .270 Winchester and even called it a, "beltless magnum".  I have no idea where the .270 Winchester would be today without Mr. O'Connor's praise and extensive use but I have to think it would be pretty much as popular as it it today.

270 is one hell of a great caliber. i think the 280 has a lot more nockdown power.i killed deer with a 270 i have a kimber i love it,but the 280 is first with me.the only gun i can compare with my 280 THAT I OWN is my 375 h h i shot a bear in gouldsboro wit the 375 hh and the bear went bckwards a few feet.and amasingly not too much damage to the bear.its a sweet gun browning a bolt ss. i think the 280 leaves a bigger hole.270 shoots a little flatter than the 280 fir sure but not much.i think no matter what gun you use you have to be happy with it.
