Pikeguy's hunting season 06 (Rifle buck pg 4)
« on: Sep 27, 2006, 09:50:29 AM »
Well, I hunted squirrels last night for the first time in, literally, years. Took my new Henry Lever .22 on it's maiden voyage. I hadn't even sighted it in, so I only shot and squirrels on the ground so I could see where it hit. A few "high" misses and I got it figured out. Ended up taking these two.

It's funny how hunting goes sometimes..I went out for squirrels when I normally am only in the woods with my bow this time of year. Every time I go bowhunting or just scouting I'm surrounded by the bushytails. Well, last night I snuck out to my brothers ladder stand as I figured I could scout it for him and probably would see plenty of squirrels. Wouldn't you know, within 20 minutes in the stand I still hadn't seen one...but I had two young deer..a buck and a doe fawn...feeding directly under my stand. I could have spit straight down on the doe as she sniffed the ladder rungs and nibbles on grass for 15 minutes. It was a pretty cool sight  :D

Sweet little gun. I like the black squirrel. You don't find too many of those by me.

Nice tree rats, Adam. I have never seen a black squirrel...
Question- Why does your .22 have the DU emblem on it?

Really? You guys don't have them huh. Weird.. I don't know just what caused them, but they've become more prevalent here since I was a kid. :-\

black squirrels are a genetic variant of the gray squirrel. I have seen a few when I went to Syracuse U. but not in the woods around me. I would be very tempted to have one mounted.

People around here used to always ask me to shoot them one so they could mount it. Now it's just normal. I think I saw 4 or so Tuesday when I hunted and maybe 4 grays  :-\

I'm not calling you a liar, but do you know how many hours I've spent in those woods?
Days upon days upon days... I find it hard to believe.
