getting closer
« on: Jan 21, 2011, 10:35:54 PM »
well with the full moon bein as bright as it was i figured it was as good a night as any to try and call in a coyote. sure enough after about 5 minutes of calling a big coyote comes running across the bog right in the exact wrong spot i was hoping it would come. downwind of me. it stopped so i called and it was headin right for me but it caught my scent and took off running. i fired a few times but after looking at the tracks where it was standing, it was just too far for my .22. i tried a few more spots after that but no such luck. o well. at least i got to see one  ;D

See what you miss when you go to bed at 830.  Might want that 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge next time too little buddy.

What type of call were you using? How long were you out there before it came in?  That sounds like an exciting encounter.

knight & hale double threat and ultimate predator 1. i was only out for maybe 10 mins at the most and it came running across the bog. it was so cool to see the dark shadow against the white snow on the bog

The few time we've called them in it was almost instant. But we would sneak out, set up, and wait for 20-30 minutes before calling. With a full moon and snow my 42mm Objective lens makes it look like daylight ;).

I don't in deep snow, to lazy to drag myself out there through the snow to be wet and cold ::).  I'll wait until the end of winter, they should be pretty hungry by then ;).

I'd try it if I knew it might be productive...  I'll have to research a little,   seems like they would stay on game trails,, might make em' easier to set up on?

I have watched the guy on this show call them in when the snow was real deep...      http://www.predatorquest.com/web/

I hunt up in Northern Michigan and when  the snow gets deep up there I put up the .223 and get the 12 gauge out. Stick to the deer runs and the cedar swamps. Less  snow cover in the swamps and usually more food. Jackrabbits tend to flock to the swamps after a couple feet. Hunt deer runs for obvious reasons.
