Too many hobbies
« on: May 20, 2005, 03:43:28 PM »
This year is the first year that I can't seem to shake the hunting bug.  I 've decided to give golf up for this year to make time for some reloading.  I've got a new .243 that I have to break-in and make accurate varmint and deer loads.  Between fishing,  hunting/shooting, hiking, camping, canoeing and golf I had to give something up.  Anybody else unusually stuck on hunting this summer?  I prefer to hunt in fall, but I was seriously considering doing my bear hunting this spring instead.

I find I'm the same way. I use to put my rifle away after Nov. and after a few months the fever was gone until early October, but now I can't get enough. I'm out for turkey and bear when ever I can. Now I have my bear the withdrawl starts all over again.

I find varmint hunting the best cure for withdrawl.  It could be real challenging to try and get within bow distance of some gophers and hit them.

I love going for gophers. Use to do it alot when I was younger. Hope I can get out and try some again. Loved stalking up to them and bouncing arrows all over the pastures.

Can't say I've tried with a bow but I love using my 10/22 on them.  Now that I have the .243 worked in a little I can't wait to get out there and try it on some distant gophers.  75gr v-max at 3400 fps shouldn't leave much behind.  ;D

Isn't shooting gophers so much more fun then golf?

Man you gotta try it with the bow. It is a real hooot. What I find amazing is that they can duck the arrow at under 5 yds.

I'll have to do that some time.  Maybe when my son is old enough for his own bow and can come with me to practice. ;)

I 've decided to give golf up for this year...

Why would you play golf in the first place?
That is one sport I will never understand...

I don't play golf very well, I'm mostly there to enjoy the weather and drink beers.  That probably explains my poor golf skills.  ;) Ever see Robin Williams stand up routine about golf.  Should check it out online.

Just like a jack of all trades does everything, he excels at nothing, and has a big pile of trash to prove it.
You have too many hobbies you just suck at everything you do, instead of sucking at the things you don't do.

True, very true but that big pile of trash is almost irresistible.  Like moths to a flame....guys to their toys. ;D
