Strutting Weather??????
« on: Mar 27, 2011, 06:23:29 AM »
Ok, so as all the upstate nyer's are aware of its the end of march and we are still having 10* nights and barely above freezing days. My question is how will this effect mating season? Do they wait till it warms up or do they instinctively know its that time to get down to business? I haven't saw one strutter yet I have saw them still in their winter flock no gobbles or anything. I hope that it does affect them so that when season is here they are nice and hot unlike last year where they were very indecisive weather they were or weren't

Huh? You post is to reed. But, I have seen them strutting and they are gobbling. Saw one strutting two weeks ago and another one yesterday. Last year seemed OK to me, the birds acted the same where we hunt.

different states...different latitude/longitudes, which affect daylight...different populations...differences in the way a particular state wants to manage that species, among other reasons they have, Im sure.

NY wants most of the breeding done before turning hunters loose in the woods. Most happens in April. Just like a lot of species, just cause the male is ready doesn't mean the female is.
