The males are toms, and yes juvenile toms are jakes, they have a short stubby beard and the feathers in the midddle of the tail will be longer than the sides(toms will have an even round fan); females are hens, they can sometimes have a beard, too.I happen to be in Indiana right now, headed to Kansas. Good luck. One suggestion I have is to find someone that knows how to hunt turkeys that will show you; I learned so much that way, really sped things up.
I have a stoger mod 2000 that I picked up used 3 inch chamber and threaded barrel for diffrent chockes, by far my favorite shotgun!
It has the same action as a bernellie well over 1000 rounds through it and no jams light weight and picks up like a dream, and its camo.
