« on: Oct 20, 2009, 11:23:23 AM »
Just looking for some tips/ ideas for cutting through the skull plate to get the antlers off. As we all know it isn't very easy. How do you guys get it done? Cheeks out!!! 8)

I used a chainsaw for my moose, and it wasn't pretty.

Its always easier if you remove the hair/skin. Then cut straight down through the eye sockets then come in through the back of the skull to intersect your first cut. If you don't have a bone saw, a sawzall works well.

Sawzall works good and its a little quicker than a bonesaw.

We use a sawzall. You need to cut a slit in the skin first on front and back. Best to have a second person hold the head down by the antlers, and to not cut that person.

Agree that a sawzall with a 12" fine tooth blade works the best. Be sure to slit the skin like others have said to keep it from just sliding back & forth.
