Hiking
« on: Oct 06, 2011, 10:39:17 AM »
With the warm weather this weekend we're heading to Inlet to hike Black Bear Mountain.  Has anyone hiked this before and have any advice?

Its a good hike...  Almost 4 miles round trip...   The grade isnt to bad but there are some pretty steep parts..   Several good views...   On a clear day you should be able to see as far as Raquette Lake from the summit... ;D   Pack some snacks and water and make a day of it...

If you want something short and sweet Rocky Mt. is right next to it....

Thanks Raquett.  I think that's what we are going to do Saturday.  Pack some lunch and picnic at the top.  Looks like a great weekend for a nice hike.

Went camping to Raquette Lake two summers ago...I really need to move out there. Hiked up Black Bear Mountain, awesome as it was my first time in the Andirondacks. At the very top I completely twisted my ankle not paying attention. Had a preety hard time getting down. A couple of hard(steep) spots, but not terrible.

They named that mountain after me!  ::)

We did Bald Mountain last year and had a lot of fun despite some bad weather.  We figured we'd try Black Bear this year for a change of scenery.

We rented a cabin, the road was off 28. If you go to the marina, the road was directly across the street from it. Fifth cabin on the left hand side or so. Don't remember the name of the lady that owned it, but man gorgeous area. I did not want to leave. I think it was mid July or so and man it was cold. 50's if we were lucky, and rain. Didn't really bother me, I was still fishing everyday. Can't wait to come back.
