Hey guys checking in, Maine kicked off the early archery season saturday, sat the morning before work, passed up a 6 pointer that would have dressed around 140. Have some absolute hammers on camera that will keep me from burning my early archery buck tag. Maybe later on in the month. My old man smoked a 100 pound doe 10 minutes into the season though. On stand now playing the waiting game. Good luck all, have a safe and fun season!

I had to split it up or it just shows a box add both of these together to add the logo to your signature.

Well guys, wish I had better news. Should have some points for us but I blew it on a nice 6 in velvet. Right under the tree, rushed the shot and forgot to bend at the waist... I'm adding that shot to my practice routine... :-[

Bummer DD. That is why I practice from a stand. I have had too many steep angle misses. I picked up a cheap ladder stand and it stays up year round for practice.

Got us some points boys!!

Legal 9 but it does have 10. Has a broken g2 but that well over an inch so at least that counts.

I got out for a nice long sit Sunday morning in the same tree I was in for the opener and didn't see squat. Got busted from behind at around 9 by something big.... Hit the bleat can 3 times then heard a couple STOMPS about 30-40 yards behind me, I'm tucked into a pine tree pretty good and never saw or heard it, but my bud Rob was in a stand 200 yards from me on a ridge and he said it was a big deer, but he couldn't tell anything more than that. Still plenty thick, looking forward to the trees shedding some leaf's  >:(

I passed on a 6 last night ...... all these QDMA guys have me flustered  :o      It was literally a yard or less from my stand eating weeds and plants.

Actually it was my first sit in a suburban spot that only i hunt and i am confident i will get another crack at him or at least a big fat doe and i really want to spend some time hunting the rut this year and i didn't want to burn my tag yet.

Of course i am having second thoughts .....  it seemed like the face was kind of white / grey and the body was fairly big ......  i'm not sure he gets a second pass  8)

I have been out a few times. I have 2 buck on the cam that are last years spawn one is a 3 and one is a tall wide 6.
I see them every time I'm on that stand but the 3 just wont give me a shot.
I'm going to let the 6 live this year, I'd rather get a doe or the 3 he's going to be a nice deer in the next year or 2.

I was in 4B and have a doe tag but i really figured i would see some more deer with it.

I also have a tag for 4J which is bow only and once i can get replacement tags for any DMP's i fill so if i see one that size there i may just do it. The whole idea of the DMP's is to thin the herd in an overpopulated area so it would ok  8)

It would, and I'm not saying don't... But with my limited tags this year I'd pass this early.

I have no room for any more deer. Barely room for ducks or pheasants. Might have to buy another freezer this year. Untll then, I'll only take a dry doe and prob donate it.

A few points to add....new food plots are bringing deer in almost every night. Switched it up to the woods for muzzle opener, when the freezer is calling hard to pass up a 10 yard shot..
Ill upload tonight or tomorrow, someday we will be able to put a photo on here right from our phone maybe..

I sat out Saturday night until dark at my friends house on the edge of suburbia ..... didn't see a thing. When i left his driveway the first turn is about 500 feet away and i drove past 4 different deer on the side of the road   ::)

Saw 9 doe and a 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer. All the does have double fawns and a couple have triplets. I don't plan on taking any does that can breed. I want a nice old dry doe. Really hoping this means the population in the area is rising. That buck made 3 scrapes last night. Very cool to watch.

Awful quiet here...been seeing some small bucks and holding out, all while trying to fill a doe tag.  Last night was a crazy night for activity. Had 3 different bucks make scrapes in front of 3 different cameras..talk about photogenic..all between 2 and 3 am of course.  But the good times are upon us!

Well done Captain!...watched a small 5 pt tonight, brought him in with a few bleats.  Then he went nuts and bumped 4 does into the plot.  Needless to say I owe that deer a beer.  One large swamp donkey heading for the freezer.  And he was still making scrapes after I shot her    :o  ...want me to enter her?

Nice job guys!
I'm starting to see some movement now, I have a 8 that just started visiting my backyard stand he made a scrape 5 feet from my stand.
It would be nice to get him but after eating my buck tag last season I doubt I'll pass on anything with two horns.
The lights that you see up the hill are my house.

Well tonight was good and bad. Saw 9 doe but I missed one. I let my impatience and over confidence get me. 4 more feet and she would have been in my shooting lane but I felt I had room to take a shot. Hit a twig and sent it right over her back. Oh well. Tomorrow's another day.

Took a doe tonight. Finally had a shot at a lone dry doe. 40 yard quartering away shot. Went 40-50 yards and never took another step. Had no teeth on her top jaw. Bottom jaw was worn to the gums.

Have had a terrible season so far with loosing two deer with my bow and a miss on a nice 8 pointer with my shotgun Wednesday. Havent had meat since august so I decided to put down the first baldie I saw and fill my bonus doe tag. the 30-06 made a mess.

Good luck everyone. Having 2 deer already, I doubt I'll pull the trigger today. Going to be very selective on what buck I take.
Title: Re: Team Silent Stalkers (team 4)
Post by: Spikehorn11 on Nov 19, 2016, 02:33:35 PM
Well I know I said I would be selective but when a buck comes out bird dogging the field looking for does, well I got real excited. I have several nice bucks on the wall and this little guy got me pumped just as they did. So he filled my buck tag. Hit him this morning around 8:00. He was shoulder shot. Let him lay and came back around noon. Kicked him up several times. He just wasn't bleeding and running on 3 legs. I eventually got him and put him down fast. Can't eat the horn. 100% pure organic meat that doesn't cause a crohns flare up like store bought meat.

Awesome job Guys!!!! I had a rough weekend at camp as far as deer sightings go, saw 4 total in 3 and a half days hunting hard. The loggers really messed up our hill we usually hunt and it has the deer patterns I grew up with totally discombobulated. Our group of 6 good hunters took 1 deer, a button buck my buddy Dave took. I misses a doe with a decent buck, and he offered me a way better shot but with no tag after my 6 I had to wait for him to totally clear her and by that time I had one small window left and I miss timed her jump and shot right under her. Oh well Hopefully this snow sticks around till next weekend and I can fill my 2 remaining Doe tags.
