shells into floaters?

hey i just came over from IS and MFF..anyone have an idea on how to turn shell goose decoys into floaters??

I happened to stop at Taylor Decoys in Ogdensburg last summer, and he told me how when we were talking about the numbers game for birds.  You simply use the slitted foam pipe insulation, and slip it over the bottom edge of the shell. It gets held in place with cable ties that you run through holes you drill in that bottom edge.  Make sense?

yess that does make sense.. do you have any issues with tipping?? that seems almsost too easy lol prolly dont need much for wieght then??

Actually haven't tried it yet myself.  I've already got about 5 or 6 floaters to mix in for ducks, and haven't hunted Canadas over water yet.

I like the foam pipe insulation idea, could a guy tie a piece of wire across the dek towards the front and suspend an anchor line from that. I would think it would keep it from flipping, maybe even attach a small weight from the wire. I might try some like that as I have a ton of shells and never seem to have enough floaters, I'll let ya know if it works or doesn't work if I get time to rig a couple up.

btw i have 8 more of these to do. yet.. maby a few more if i can get a steal of a deal.. also i couldnt manage tipping one even by driving my 15 foot boat 5 feet away from it.. so sind shoulndt be an issue unless it gets under the tail..
