Mine was a deer target at 10 yards!!!!Dont worry about flunking, people missed and couldnt hit the target with multiple rock throws if they wanted to and still passed...... ;)

Good luck, and don't worry..  If you just listen to the instructor you will do well on the written part... They wont fail you if you miss the target..

i didnt have to take a shooting test is that new?? We just had to shoot the instructors recurves for proper technique or something. I hit the metal poles that hold the target with 2 of my 3 shots and broke two of the instructors arrows and still passed  :P

Your right Drob, I am... But have to abide by NYS's dismissal of competence. They say it right in your instructor training, if they can't hit the broad side of a barn . what are they going to hurt...Sorry I still feel there should be some sort of proficiency test for prospective hunters. If serious about hunting with a bow, most will practice enough to hit a target at 20yds. Quite a few states require you to shoot to obtain a licence. They don't want people wounding a bunch of deer. It really is a catch 22.
People that can shoot very well will still wound deer, and most license agents now in the computer age don't have anywhere for someone to shoot.
So it stays as it is. Please Whitetailfreak, just practice as much as you can. Learn to be as proficient and ethical as possible. All anyone can ask of you.
Good luck, and welcome to the brotherhood of bowhunters.

Good job Chris!! Enjoy the extra days in the woods this fall. It will make you a better hunter all around for sure.
Corey: A recurve is as hard as you want to make it. If you bow has the ability to have a sight put on it, then it is a little easier.
If not, it is all about repetition. Same anchor, release and sight picture for different distances. A "LOT" of practice.
